Antonio Vivaldi Concerto in C for Mandolin part 3 Allegro moderato

What is, never was, what was, will never be again,
as this healing feeling flows through the lands.
Arthur Twilight

Arthur Twilight is dedicated to the land of the Westlands, these United States of America. The title for this work of fiction refers to a brave young man, his friends and their parents, who appear in the evenings twilight to save this great land in 'a nick of time' from the loss of it's soul forces. The result is a standing up for our Nation's expressed resolve to be a beacon for the free and wondrous world we all share together, while also understanding that reasonable thought should never be considered a treasonable act here in America. The quote by Merlin that Jesus came to Earth 'to spread joy and revolution' refers to a revolution of thought and nothing else. Thomas Paine's 'Common Sense' is included in this story because it is an American classic, well written, and I think should be read by all thinking, open minded Americans before reaching the age of 60. A consequence of this classic work was the social compact entered into between the people of these United States of America and our elected government representatives, consummated with the writing of the United States Constitution in 1789 and our Bill of Rights adopted in 1791.

Fix in its place with thoughts that stand for ever !"

SIR GAWAIN AND THE GREEN KNIGHT
Anonymous

[ This King Arthur was at Camelot at Christmas with many a lovely lord, and they were all princely brethren of the Round Table, and they made rich revel and mirth, and were free from care. And betimes these gentle knights held full many a tournament, and jousted in jolly fashion, and then returned they to the court to sing the Christmas carols. And the feasting was for fifteen days, and it was with all the meat and mirth that men could devise. And glorious to hear was the noisy glee by day and the dancing by night, and all was joyous in hall and chamber, among the lords and ladies as it pleased them, and they were the most renowned knights under Christ and the loveliest ladies that ever lived, for all these fair folk were in their first age, and great were they

in mirth
The gayest in the land,
The king was of great worth,
I could not name a band
So hardy upon earth.]

In our lives joyful as sad events run like rose colored threads yet
songs and poems rising as gardens sweet scents spreads ascending.
Our good Creator's happiness a place so fair meets us descending
not of our merits but good grace of the spirits, given for all to share.

As Kings and Queens we sleep and dream of our soul's powers,
the wisdom of stars concealed is revealed again in these hours.
From our pillows we see ourselves in many sunny bright bowers,
playing in the willows and new world's light colorful flowers.

So in conscious sleep dream of health, our well being restored,
recover from soul's foes dullness and ignorance, fleeing, floored.
Angels take flight in moving streams, rising mists and rolling clouds,
their mighty signature seen in the lightning bright with all their scrolling.
Know in sleep your soul is awake, shining far into the nights light
out to the moon from within and glowing like the stars so bright.

Introduction

Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table are like ‘shadows of dreams in the minds of the old’ for many today. Yet the ‘Bardic lore’, myths and fairy tales continue to flow though ‘the waters of the Clyde’ (1) since the first King Arthur epic poem Gododdin composed around 600 A.D. by Welsh bard Aneurin. With us since the 6th century through the 9th 12th and 14th centuries then with vigor renewed into our 19th, 20th and 21st centuries and most probably right on into our futures. Movie screens and television sets entertain people around the world with this brave and romantic mystery legend cycle of the West. It is our unique gift from the folks and peoples of our homeland to all the folks and peoples of the world. It is Western Civilization’s heart felt story- a Book of Man as it was and is experienced. Living in our vivid adventures seen by our mind’s eye and felt in our hearts while going our ways into our own futures, our own Camelot’s! Here we are all flying and swimming around our mind’s Book of Knowledge, as if the souls of angels, meeting at the white round stone table.

Arthur was born in the year 473 A.D. parented by Uther Pendragon and Ygerne of Cornwall. Merlin called ‘Caledonian’ the magician and sage was his teacher at Tintagel Castle in Cornwall, Arthur’s birthplace and home. Scholarship and history inform us that “Arthur lived primarily in the borderlands between Scotland and Northern England.” (3) In the year 512 his father died. The knight leads the fight against the Saxons whom he and his army defeats. He then begins his quest for the Holy Grail and in the year 513 he marries Guinevere. Arthur was crowned King of Britain in A.D. 516 and he returns once again to do battle with the Saxons in the same year of 516. In 517 Arthur defeats the Saxons in the Battle of Mt. Badon and peace reigns through out the lands again. In 535-37 at the battle of Camlann both Arthur and Modred his fellow countryman and mortal enemy are critically, then mortally wounded. These are some of the historical facts we have come to accept about the history of King Arthur.

The scholarship I use is listed in my references at the text end. One I use with great appreciation as a primary reference source and duly noted throughout this work is Eleanor C. Merry – English, (1873 - 1956). She is coal, diamonds and stars all mixed together for me! I am most appreciative of her Herculean labors as well as her scholarship done with a love for the subject matter. That is a study of our ‘internal history as a culture', (1) a ‘once and future once again’ story.

Arthur Twilight is a story written in the hero's tradition. I use the white stone table as a symbol for one of the very precious stones in the crown of our Western Civilization’s cultural heritage. The legends of the King Arthur and those Knights of the Round Table are an ancient wisdom tradition bequeathed to the West. They are the spiritual/philosophical jewels of our cultural heritage, a tradition that has been tended for thousands of years in the West. The lamp passes on the sea's of time into ancient Troy of Turkey to the holy island Iona and the British Isles to be in England to be in Westland to be in the United States of America. (1) It is our sacred duty and trust to keep this spirited tradition alive at all costs.

537A.D. Somerset, in Southwest Cornwall and the Isle of Avalon

It was during the gray dark seasons of 535-37 A.D. at the battle of Camlann where both King Arthur and Modred his countryman and enemy were mortally wounded. He and his fellow Knight Gawain escape the battlefield riding Gawain's steed to the shoreline. They get into a small boat and row across the bay to the Isle of Avalon. They stumble out of the boat and limp to a bear cave lost in the tangle of great Oaks, fallen timbers and high brush. Gawain builds a small fire just inside the cave then wraps the king in some deer skins he has packed to the cave on his back, then lies down next to King Arthur his Excalibur and his shield. Here he is watched and cared for by the knight Gawain. It was a slow death, like a great lion torn in battle and now bleeding to death. Gawain applies pressure to the king's wound with some undergarments he has ripped from his own clothing. It was dusk, the dim part of twilight that comes before the dark of night.

They fall fast into dreaming sleep, awaiting the moment, the fire burns bright now. As they lay there many of his knights continue fighting the battle back in Camlann. The sounds are still swirling about them as if a grim harbinger had followed them to the isle. As the sun sets into the evening's twilight a healing wind blows through their small camp. They dream of silver blades striking, loud rings echoing across the hills. All of it flowing like a wide shallow river spreading out across the battlefield. The air in the cave was choked in ash from the fire, death was present. Screams of war carried in the air up the hillsides to the cloaked horizons lost in an ire darkness. Voices could be heard singing in the courts of Camelot, sounds of lively humans and cheerful angels...

What is, never was, what was, will never be again,
as this healing feeling flows through the lands.

"Knowest thou what thou are
In the hour of sleep-
a mere body- a mere soul-
Or a secret retreat of the light?" (1)

Not long ago…in a land not far from where they now laid, King Arthur is dreaming of laying in some tall grass as a boy at twilight watching the stars ”climb out of shadowy abysses’(1) as his father Pendragon points to the constellation of the great Bear the place that he is to soon return. He felt himself "ascend the invisible stairways of the sky" (1) until he stood at the edge of the constellation Arth-Uthyr the Great Bear. He saw the "Light of the North" a group of illumined figures standing at 'a circular abyss of darkness'.(1) Seven Lords with stars upon their foreheads stood there, Arthur recognizes himself as the King of the Seven Kings. Then he hears a voice in the great silence,

"Comrades in God, the time has come when that which is great shall become small."(1) As he fell back falling away from the vision he goes into a deep sleep.

After a fitful nights sleep he awoke speaking, half delirious now, to Gawain of his father’s visit and the 'Light of the North'. As King Arthur points to the sky Gawain takes Arthur into his arms and speaks to his beloved King.

“Better there than this God forsaken dust bin we find ourselves in now good King. May I too have the courage of  heart to "climb out of shadowy abysses" following this ‘better way’ back into the starry round.”

“From service to others and merry making with our wives and ladies in this 'circular abyss of darkness' on to the school of the stars my good Knight Gawain, that’s really all there is. Paradise lost, 'that which is great shall become small' then found once again. Run through on a battle field to once again rise victorious, ascending the invisible stairways of the sky” he breathes hard, he is dieing.

“Yes Arthur we tried to build a heaven, a paradise here on Earth for the folk. A ‘better way’ of life for the poor and hungry, a Camelot for all. Guess we were ahead of our times good King. The ‘forces that be’ of good Dame Mother Nature and the wealthy do not care about such dreams of the Knights of the Round Table, do they good King Arthur?”

“We angered a number of the nobles through out the lands, we did Gawain. From cannibals and wandering clans foraging for roots and red berries to civilized Christians, from gentle nomadic brutes to Brits on into the mist of future glory. My good teacher and sage Merlin told  me of all that has been and will be along this journey we travel upon this earth. So make your amends to any ladies who’s hearts you have broken Gawain as they could be, my gallant knight, any one them, your mother next time around this once and again beauteous sphere!"

They smile at each other through the dust and ash floating through the air. They cover their mouths with torn undergarments. Mice, rats, rodents unclassified, scurry about in the faint obscured glow of the moon light. The days of sunlight and moonlight are for now things of the past, both seemed dark. A volcanic ash cloud filled the air, death was all about. The sulfuric acid and ash obscured both the moon and the sun. Slowly  life was dieing, tilled back into the earth now anew with spent life. In the dark cold cave they were illumined by the small fire as they spoke to each other.

“Do you know what I miss Arthur? I miss seeing the yellow and red roses. None like the other, the blossoms, the smells, then their fruits falling to the ground.”

They were silent as Gawain added some sticks to the fire. The skies overcast darkness was oppressive, the rising sun looked like a rising moon, strange, even foreign.

“What is, never was, what was, will never be again.” King Arthur says this softly, it is mixed in with the sounds of the rodents rustling around them.

“Seems all like a dream now Arthur. Merlin, Camelot, Guinevere. Those who see the yellow rose, only see it in their dreams found in the lands of the 'never wintering sun'.” (5)

Arthur slowly takes a crystal out of his pocket and holds it up to the fire catching its light in the crystals latticed planes producing a flood of color. The sky began turning light. He catches the light of the fire and the new sunlight in his crystals planes, reflecting the colors of the rainbow. They look at the colors of the crystals reflected light fall onto their surroundings, their skin, the ground and in the air around them. Arthur then said to Gawain,

“the laws of nature obeyed in the rose and crystal Gawain are like the steps of a cat with hardly a missed step, in continuous change and movement. Through the crystal's fractures and faults the light is slowed in it's space and then filled with beautiful colors. Like paths of knowing leading to the very soul, then on into the spirit of the universe, like our Camelot and the good knights Gawain.” He reflects the colors of the crystal onto them running it up and down their faces and bodies, like a ray of colored healing it fills their gray cave with some much needed color.

He fell silent a few moments, rodents swarmed over them running wildly over the fields as caught in a huge wave they had no control over seen now in the morning twilight. He whispered once again as the crystals colors fell on his chest, “filling a need of the heart” the smells of death and gas were overwhelming, they covered their mouths and noses with rags. Many bandits and mercenaries, weak and desperate, roamed the lands. Arthur held some beads in his other hand. His breathing was labored, he was sweating and cold.

As Gawain looked about him he said nervously even excitedly,

“Our hearts good King will lead us, our ‘question is our quest’ like Merlin taught us King Arthur. We will such to present itself to us! This’ little lamp of Christ’ will lead us King Arthur! The’ little lamp of Christ’ it will lead us on!” The sky was becoming light outside.

“How I miss the music of the court. The mandolins, lutes, guitars and tambourines, mixed with the voices of many fair maidens, they ring in my ears still. The angels could not have made prettier music I feel.” "Yes I agree good knight."  The suns daylight rays poured into the cave and warmed them.

Soft strains of medieval music fill the air as the two knights are quite the dreams of last night still with them, filled with the events of the past ten years. Battles fought and won, the peasants freed from the tyranny of greedy land owners as women and children laughed and danced around the May pole. Then as night turns to day, as life turns to death, an approaching gray cloud overtakes the light, suddenly the joyous voices turn to cries of suffering and despair...

The new light warmed them to more talk. Laying next to each other Gawain says to King Arthur,

“Good Christ Arthur colors still exist in the dreams. I saw the summers red of victorious battles, and the fall sky blues of the fair maiden's gowns touching the beautiful gardens of Camelot...Ah the peaceful whites of water and winters snow cover returning again to yellows and greens found in the springs air. We live four square in this world of dreams far away from the three pronged fork of the devil that we now find ourselves impaled upon here in this brutish state of affairs. Good King Arthur the dreams are now as the language of angels.”

“We are as the two sides of one coin now good knight and must bear up under the weight of this duo world we find ourselves in. Like the white stone pulled along the rivers bottom we are tumbled, our sharp edges broken away, replaced in the roundness of time."

Gawain gets up now, adds some limbs to the small fire then starts boiling some water for a tea. He gathers some grubs, beetles and what few green leaves he can find for a salad of sorts, all gathered within 15 feet of the caves entrance. They were both slowly starving, their hygiene was breaking down as a result of the campaign they have been on. It has left them without clean water for bathing. It was an ignoble and painful death but somehow they retained their dignity and humor about themselves.

Then as out of a dream Merlin, also known as the ‘Caledonian’ appears in the morning twilight walking towards them out of the brush. He was a tall, long bearded man walking barefoot using a walking stick. He is wearing a tunic and hooded coat. In his hand he carried a branch of mistletoe, hanging from his belt was a pouch. As he approaches them the songs and music of Camelot heard not so long ago are heard filling the air once again.

In our lives joyful as sad events run like rose colored threads yet
songs and poems rising as gardens sweet scents spreads ascending.
Our good Creator's happiness a place so fair meets us descending
not of our merits but good grace of the spirits, given for all to share.

"Here put this in your fire" pulling a hare out of his coat and handing it to Gawain.

"Morning, I see you are ready good King Arthur to meet our good maker. You, my good King, will be in Paradise soon after the lark sings it's sweet song come tomorrow morning".

He pulls some red berries, vervain, cress and wort out of his pouch and along with the mistletoe he was holding puts them all in the small pot that sits boiling on their fire just inside the caves entrance.

“I can see that I am not a minute to soon good King Arthur.”

“It does my heart good to see you again Merlin,” Arthur says weakly to his old friend and teacher.

“Yes King Arthur it is good to see you once again as well."

Turning to Gawain he says,

"and how I wished you had joined us at the round table Sir Gawain. We were like the signs of the zodiac complete with a sun, a moon and all the planets too, as in the great round of lives so beautiful and full of change. From brutes to Brits in just 8 thousand years as I like to say!”

“My path was of my own making Merlin, you understand. I was very much part of the Round Table even though I, with my trusty stead, was out in the fields and hills defeating the dark Draco and the Green Knight with many others through out the lands. The oppressors of people are like the evil spells used by the criminal minded among us for their own gains, all while living respectable lives, resplendent in dazzling riches. Yes I was away from the Round Table but sending those lost souls back to you Merlin and to King Arthur for your judgment and justice meted out was a great reward for me.”

“Yes Gawain you did the lands a great service as later on the ‘Goose’ Parsifal  will do for the lands as well. Civilized humans, such a great undertaking you and Parsifal seeded. You did the once and future king a great service and great merriment was had as well! Yes! From the royal King to kings, from folks to persons of equal worth” the old teacher exclaims in a subdued voice.

"'Christus verus Luciferus' Christ is the true light-bearer, the little lamp of Christ that allowed us to love one another. The spiritual love of community beyond blood, brothers and that dark magician Draco." Pausing for a moment he continues,

"what is, never was, what was, will never be again.”

Merlin looked at his beloved King Arthur.

“From 485 to 496 good King Arthur you won “twelve battles” during which you gained the reputation for being invincible. You were as the invisible egg!”

King Arthur speaks, “as if protected by the influences of the angels and Christ we brought down the new way to earth for a civilized world to experience. We were ahead of our times, such a great gift the world has been given.

"What is, never was, what was, will never be again.”

“Yes, you King Arthur, Camelot, the Knights of the Round Table, to be followed later in time by the Grail Castle and the Parsifal legends with the Knights of the Holy Grail. Like visions in the night for all the folk to treasure and share. Like waking dreams, the union between our day selves and our sleeping night selves were joined together in a mystical marriage. We were as the morning twilight of humanity awaking to the joy that only love brings."

"We asked questions in the dream and awoke to the answers surrounded by maidens of beauty, beautiful music and food for everyone. Spreading joy and revolution of a new thinking along the way like Master Christ Jesus before us."

"Yes good King, not since Iona then to Britain to the unknown secret land of the Westlands, the Americas, would better be known of man."

Gawain spoke saying, "the inbiber of learning" (1)Gall Power brought us to our minds and knowledge and away from the old dragon's witches clairvoyance and tricks."

"Yes Gawain an end was put to human sacrifice and 'vital changes in civilization which ushered in intellectual knowledge as distinct from the old instinctive knowledge'(1) was brought in by the teacher Gall Power."

The three men gathered around the fire as the sun rise began to light the dark gray sky. They started eating the leaves, berries and bugs gathered earlier, while waiting for the now skinned rabbit to burn to a roast atop the fire. Merlin took out a small vial of honey from a deer skin pouch he carried under his coat and poured it over the ingredients held in their small wooden bowls. A quickening of brotherhood moved through them as they shared the meal together. Through the pain and suffering of the times and their love for each other and their fellow human beings, the knights and their teacher were able to experience inner forces that had built in them an inner space filled with grace and music Their lives filled from the spiritual worlds while still in this physical world. King Arthur seemed buoyed by the visit from his old teacher Merlin, both the knights were revivified in the renowned Sage’s presence.

”I feel in my heart that it is found here among us now. The grail cup allows us to overcome all obstacles, to find family among others who become as brothers and sisters to us in a ‘new way’. It is born in the heart. The Templars of Jerusalem understood this ‘new way’. A thousand years from now in the year 1413 the 5th post Atlantean cultural age will begin. The seeds of this 'new way' will bear fruit with the belief that ‘freedom is a mission’ while living on earth with our fellow human beings. It will travel from Europe to be exemplified by the Westlands in 1776 establishing the United States of America the greatest Christian Nation to ever be seen in this world's future. Then later in the 6th post-Atlantean cultural age a people called the Russians will realize this ‘new way’ too. Many will return to earth as Russians in their future life times around 3000. A strong Will of Christos light will predominate in both these distant future lands. You my good knights have tilled the fields and spread the seeds for these great times ahead.”

Merlin looked at King Arthur and shone a light on him with his hands. It was a yellow, green hue. The King looked so young, white as an Easter Lilly. Merlin continued talking to the knights. The King listened, smiling, eyes shut.

“The star wisdom of the East comes to Glastonbury legend tells, with Christianity being brought to Iona by Joseph of Arimathea and his faithful. Celtic religious centers grew there long before the Roman occupation of future England this small island among islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Christians sought out these ancient pagan sites while establishing Glastonbury as their first monastic settlement in the West. Joseph of Arimathea the legend continues brought the chalice that Jesus Christ used at the last supper. It took place in the upper room of an Inn. This Celtic wisdom Gall Power brought us called a ‘new way’ is what we have protected as the ’Knights of the Round Table’ at Camelot.”

“So these trials we find ourselves burdened with now are a part of this ‘new way’ Merlin?”

"These gases, dust and darkness are of the earth good men, a great belching as from the very bowels of hell. As we slip the chains of darkness we must pass through this valley of darkness. Evil is not asleep, volcanoes, earthquakes, are part of the earth’s waking up. Hot like the soldier in the noonday sun wearing his armor and helmet, then becoming cold as he marches through a cold winters grasp, his armor freezing to his skin."

"Through the valley of death and the many foolish things we have done during our lives, a wisdom is born out of our compassion for ourselves, others and even this beautiful earth.” The noble king did not open his eyes as he spoke.

“That’s right Arthur, wisdom is connected with the heart. Our origins are tied to the earth as well as the stars. We must know where we come from in order to get back to where we came from. Able then to continue in the starry worlds. Like the family of Kheeberi (Heber), the Phoenicians and the Jews (Hebrews) are joined at the hip. Sailing the oceans of the world they colonized and inhabited every country on the earth founding its civilizations.” (4)

“The world upon this rock is now dusty and our arms are not embracing maidens rather they are slaying the unrighteous pagans. Tell us Merlin how do we ever find a balance in this world of ours that sees ‘the golden rule’ 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you' as a way for all to abide by?’

“Love the earth Gawain it is part of our soul’s fabric. Now more than ever love the earth and help to heal it. As Christ said ‘take my blood and eat my bread’. Life is an initiation and humans are the test we all face in this unfolding but the earth is our stage that we must stand upon.”  Merlin thought for a moment then continued.

“It is most important not to cry over spilt drink. Remember Joseph of Armithena spent 40 years in prison with nothing but the Grail to sustain him before traveling to Somerset. Our good King Arthur was imprisoned three times during his own lifetime. Did I ever tell you Gawain that I found the Round Table in the Phonessesian Islands? It is at least four thousand years old, a huge white round stone. It had the seven epochs of world history starting with India after the last great flood on to Persia, then to Egypt then the Graeco- Roman cultures to the 5th post Atlantean age which the world will see a thousand years from now. All carved into it atop the 12 zodiac signs. We would sit at the Round Table with the Grail amethyst cup drinking and regenerating our blood with fine wine and song."

"Yes Merlin" Arthur began to speak, "and this regeneration you speak of we realized by questioning authority within our hearts and minds and the world at large while living in this world. Many died without questions asked so must return anew and good God willing will have the heart and hot flowing blood of courage to ask the questions. What did we expect really! So in the question is the quest, this the soul's adventure that we all have embarked upon.”

“It seems that evil is the force that keeps the world in such confusion about these matters of life and death. The dark magicians of Draco entered falsely into our world, so well prepared to breed with as many mortals of this material world of slow moving forces as possible. As in a cloak of spell binding where true wealth is misunderstood and most oddly their seeming enjoyment at watching human's sufferings. I see these forces of the Dragon and the Green Knight all the time when I ride through the country side. They roust the country folk of their crops, pennies while spreading great fear!”

Merlin replied,

“They play their hand to the hilt. All the while they are members of their secret societies, empowering themselves in the ways and means of the material world. Yes that is right. In the Parsifal story that I will inspire in the 9th century there are characters named Klingor the black magician and the King Amfortas. The King Amfortas who lives on the island of Sicily has a wound on his testicles that cannot be healed. His inability to discriminate between love and sex is what wounds him mortally.  I am afraid that the human being does not seem to be evolving as a forward thinking and long viewed phenomenon but rather has come under the dark spell of this dragon that we slay with our swords 'the shaper of Europe.” (1)

“That is why it is so important for us Knights of the Round Table to live by a code of chivalry and respect for all women and children, to honor all human beings as the children of the Creator. These brutish folk so need this lamb of Christ! Look how the Druids make folk bob for the apple in Ceridwen’s Cauldron boiling, or kill folk as sacrifice to their pagan gods and this dragon god! At a knight's sword they did accept Christ or die! We cut many throats and boiled them in her own “boiling vessels” their large cauldrons!”

“Yes Gawain from cannibals to Christians by way of the sword!" saying this with some reservation in his voice before continuing. "Remember good knight Christ Jesus took the pagan grail rituals and transformed them into the Mysteries of the Christian Grail. 'Christus verus Luciferus' Jesus of Nazareth bearer of the Christos Sun Spirit, passed through the Threshold of Death and transformed death into life, wholly and fully, for all mankind.”(1) This ’little lamp of Christ’ leads the way out of here and not even hell has the power to stand in the way of it's light. The blood of Christ falling upon the Earth enlivened it for all who choose to follow this 'little lamp of Christ' ”.

“Exactly King Arthur and when this code is not honored it can lead to the retarding of the soul life and hold us back from our future destinies. Knight Parsifal will not be popular with the established church then as he will encourage people to think for themselves. We are not ‘beast of burden’ finding salvation solely by the sweat of our brows. We are rather questioning individuals on the quest of our immortal souls. The future state of mankind will not think much of this quest to communicate with our soul lives. As you both know this has gotten many a person bobbing for the apples in the hot cauldrons of my fellow Druids and pagans of the dragon in the very resent past and will see many more killed in the distant future of humanity as well.”

“Yes and many of these rituals we stopped before their faces were burned from their skulls! The Druids, we cut their throats and cut their hearts out of their chests, boiling them in their own cauldrons. This church you speak of Merlin appears to want to think for the folks and persons. But it seems to me that this thinking can wound the wisdom of the stars.”

Merlin responds, “thinking with the will through the heart is the threefold way crossing in the heart like the figure 8. Independence and the spiritual love which unites those not related by blood.” He walks around the fire taking out a copper figure 8 and hands it to the Knight Gawain.

“King Arthur and before him Saturn seen as the Father of the seven periods of planetary evolution. In Welsh he is “son of Saidi” one of three sovereigns in King Arthur's court. In the court of King Arthur he is the door-keeper and Guardian of the seat of wisdom. That’s what you have told us Merlin, stars as souls at the round table of Christ in the evening twilight. 'Like John at the River Jordan healing folk in the long healing moments of the evenings sunsets' ".(1)

“Yes Gawain that is right. So you both see now that the world has at times needed to be emptied so that it could once again be filled. Like that figure 8, these are times of great sacrifice, great transformation and our rewards are of a celestial nature.”

As Merlin continued talking the King Arthur looked very young and so white. The battle waged on across the channel yet Merlin remained fully present to King Authur and the good Knight Gawain. The sky was gray but rays of sun light broke through the haze to illumine the three men.

“Long ago there was a land called Atlantis that sank to the bottom of the ocean. Then you Arthur like Parsifal after you, had to lead the world in the Initiation rites of a new civilization. It was the light and warmth from your hearts at Camelot while helping those in need through out the countryside that allowed the world to be a civilized and better place to live. Transforming the darkness to light, you can see in now! You Arthur and our Knights of the Round Table rose above the negative and shone this light in the world that helped transform our land far and wide. From Brutes to Brits, yours was and will be again a great mission, ‘freedom as mission’ a worthy task for all and future Knights of the Round Table.”

Gawain removed the rabbit from the fire and pealed the skin off. He then tour off a leg for King Arthur then for Merlin and finally himself. When certain people come together the results could be ascension of potential within the group. Relationships with others develop, the soul realm is found once again, where we discover our goals in life and as a result discover ourselves. The will to serve others can then be firmly established. The three men ate the rabbit legs quickly as the rodents were caught in the suns rays seen running across the caves floor.

As they sat by their fire they closed their eyes, an afterglow filled their minds eye, filling the surrounding space, it was the soul of the world at large that they had come to know and experience. The dirty air filled all space it seemed yet this light within created space anew. Merlin then receded into the dark gray day as he could be heard saying to the knights,

“Ask the question and you will be on the quest”. He stopped, turned back to look at the knights one last time, “ask the question and you will be on the quest good King Arthur and good Knight Gawain.” He turned and walked into the dusk, a healing with every step he took in his bare feet until he was gone from their sight..

The Knights of the Round Table had transformed the outer world through their experiences and actions. They then entered the light of the inner world. Their senses quickened, as their souls were united with the world’s soul.  The world was caught between the world of God, the angels and hell with its accompanying retrograde entities of Draco the dragon, butchers and thieves. Born on this boarder in the fine ethereal substance of life is a future created with our thinking for a better world for all. As the day passed into night and the moon and stars broke through the clouds of dust they shone a healing light upon the dieing knights.

With the morning twilight a lark sings it's sweet song.

“Hold me Gawain, I am going home now. From the world of duty and pleasure I take my leave for the school of the stars.” Gawain held Arthur in his arms.

"In the light of God and all the angels I am victorious!” As a white center opened up in the sapphire blue sky above him King Arthur sees 12 ships awaiting his arrival. A ray of light, 'the little lamp of Christ' guides him home as he "ascends the invisible stairways of the sky" (1). King Arthur sails into the deep blue sea of the Creator's creation as a thousand angels sang an ascension song for the noble King Arthur's return.

Gawain could feel his King’s breathing slow, the light in his eyes dim but remain open as he slips away in to the blue sky that has opened up around them now. Gawain sheds a few tears for his King and brave gallant knight then sets a brush pile on fire and kneels to say some prayers for his beloved friend under a great Oak tree, limbs laden with mistletoe and trunk covered with tumor like galls. The fire rose in intensity billowing black smoke as the flames began to flash up the small pyre. The dead yet still green limbs soon bore flames of a soft peach color as the spirit of Arthur rose to the heavens in the now white smoke as the fire turned a bright red. Arthur’s soul found it's rightful place in the yellow glow of the spirits land. Gawain left King Arthur's armor on and wrapped the king in deer skin. Across his body he laid his green shield and blue steel Excalibur. Here the body would lay until a proper burial spot could be established for King Arthur.

Word of his death spread quickly. Folk were shouting his praises with not a bad word heard of him in the valleys, on the hills or from the plains of Avalon that day. As...

Mother Mary approaches in blue robes and golden stars.
Holding the white egg of spiritual knowledge in one hand,
the golden egg of rebirth in the other as she calls to King Arthur.

"Remember as Odrun told us 'there is no wonder in death
and hell is not as it is reported to be' in this sea of life.
12 boats await you at the Threshold as this old world perishes,
with parts transformed and a new world added to your bounty."

"Through the sun risen in your heart's thinking (1)
Earth in time will become a fixed star, a shining lamp of light."

What is, never was, what was, will never be again,
as this healing feeling flows through the lands.
Like John at the River Jordan healing folk in the long healing moments of the evenings sunsets.

Long Island, New York, September 2000

It is an overcast evening. Ever so faint the sounds of a song are heard carried along on the winds. It is a chorus tune, louder now yet heard long ago, returning again on the waves of time. Heard now on the horizon of twilight's healing time. It was a song heard in the Westlands and went like this.

What is, never was, what was, will never be again
as this healing feeling flows through the lands.

Secrets within, secrets without can make society for answers seeking.
Give us the truth then bravely we will be as sparks of gladness peaking!
Like those gray dusty doves flight into the evenings twilight yawning dusk,
souls lift in healing delight into sleepy cloud towers seeing lights dawning.

The beach is empty. Off in the distance you can hear a 'whirring', droning sound approaching. Suddenly a wave of pebbles and stones break the air. A crushing sound gets louder, deeper then slower as the meteors became meteorites, silent now with the shower of stones fanned out atop the stone covered shore.

A voice calls out: “Dude you got them.”

The same sound is heard again and then another voice calls out: “Got them.”

Arthur Twilight and his best friend Wain Wright were going out to the local nuclear power plant to spread some crushed amethyst and smoky quartz around the perimeter of the plant. It is a protection from the evil forces that might want to do the plant and people harm. Arthur and Wain were 18 years old. The only sons of married couples, their fathers worked as a Policeman and Fireman in New York City. They did not fear too much in their immediate environment, so to speak.

Wain got the semi- precious stones at Mr. Gallo Lenz's jeweler’s shop where he worked cleaning up three evenings a week. What he swept up off the floor, as long as it was not a diamond or some other precious stone and inspected by Mr. Lenz first, then if he wanted to keep the sweepings he could. In his small pouch he had a mix of rose quartz, clear crystal fragments, amethyst flacks, and iron pyrites. They were going to spread the stones and metal shavings on the land around the nuclear power plant for protection from evildoers and misguided souls.

“Lets go.“ They biked for 10 minutes to the outskirts of town. It was not fenced off and only one sleepy guard who spent most his time reading to just stay awake manned the entrance gate. They had little problem getting on the land and then close up to the plant building.

“Here Arthur take the sack.” Wain pulls it out of his jacket. It is as big as a grapefruit.  Author took it and immediately held it out to Wain.

“Hold it with me. ‘Christ and the Angels of Light surround this place in your light.’ Now hold you hand out, take the dust and spread it around the plant going that way. I will meet you around the other side. Say the prayer as you spread it on the ground.”

“Right.” Like two deer they were off. Meeting at the half waypoint in 30secs. They then fell back, running along Arthur’s route back to their bikes. In another minute they were off the grounds biking home.

“See ya”

 “Yep, see ya.”

The Twilight’s were a close-knit family. Abe and Merry Twilight had been married 25 years. Arthur was an only child. They had lived their entire lives in Long Island, New York. They lived in a red brick, two-bedroom house with perfectly tended gardens and lawns that overlooked the Long Island sound.

Arthur parked his mountain bike on the side of the garage when he arrived home and walked into the house thought the garage. His mother was preparing dinner.

“Hi mom how are this fine evening?”  Merry Twilight was preparing dinner for them

“Just fine, and you Arthur?” She was fixing a salad, took a drink of water from a large clear glass that she had sitting on the counter. Before Arthur had a chance to answer his mother she asked him:

“Excuse me Arthur but by chance have you been out to the plant again?” She could see the mud caked on his boots. “You know how empathic your dad is about your staying off that property.”

“Believe me I know mom so I’m coming clean with you. I was there not more than five minutes. No harm really, we just spread some blessed stone dust around the place that's all.”

“Oh Arthur please don’t mention that to your dad. You know how he is about that kind of metaphysical stuff.”

“So you went with Wain Wright too! Listen honey don’t be getting your erstwhile friend in trouble along with you. That old Irish bulldog dad of his Cain Wright and his mom Ann would be calling us in front of the chief downtown it that happened, you know it. So please promise me one more time."

‘No more power plant or I will incarnate into a toad upon my first step on those forbidden lands.’

"Please Arthur stay away from there, your going to get us all in trouble if you don’t. O.K.?”

 “Sure mom. Say is..”

“Arthur!”  “O.K. I promise. That good enough or do you want the frog part too?”

“Toad, toad, toad, and yes it’s o.k. but remember it’s a darn toad your turning into if you screw up while running around that place.”

“Got it. Dad home?”  “He will be home soon. Just called before you got here. See, think of him and he’s here.”

Just then Officer Abe Twilight a New York City Police Detective walked into the kitchen from the garage. He walks over and hugs his wife. Then after greeting her he turns to Arthur ask him the same question his wife asked their son earlier that evening.

“You been out to the plant today?”

“What is this F.B.I. school or something. Lets see, the mountain bike tires, right?”

“Right. So where you?”

“Dad you a cop or something? O.K. busted. I promised mom upon death I would not go there again. I will promise you the same. I promise not to go there anymore.”

“Somehow that was a little to quick for my suspicious nature Arthur. Lets see here. Oh I know. What was your reason for going out to the nuclear power plant after we both, your mom and I, asked you specifically not to go there again?”

“Uh…just looking for bad guys? Seeing if we could spot any leaking. You know checking up for waste problems and such.”

“O.K. Einstein, one more time. Don’t go there. Got it!”  His father did not hesitate to raise his voice to Arthur as he had come to understand a long time ago that Arthur always had his reasons for anything he ever did and he sure had a reason for visiting the power plant.

“Got it Sir!”  “Good son, now how are you?”

“Great dad and you now that the old, sorry, the blood pressure is slowing on down how are you?”

“Do you really want to know?”

“No but thanks for the offer. Listen I have something I want to talk to you about. Do you think after dinner we could take a drive?”

“Got some snoopin' and scoopin' or you just playing explorer?"

“No nothing like that. It’s a geological feature I found out at the old rock quarry. I want to show you these quartz crystals I located out there last week with Wain. I think we got something, so I need your advice about the legal aspects of this find. Interested?”

“Sure Arthur sounds good. We can take the lamps if we need them.”

“We will need them.”

That night after dinner Arthur and his dad left the house, picking up Wain heading out of town about 3 miles. It was an abandoned piece of property adjoining a small rock quarry operation next door. There was a run down old mansion on it with lots of empty rooms. The building did not interest the three of them very much; it was the tunnel they found at the back of the property that they were there for.

Abe looked at his map, speaking then to the young men. "From my map here we are on private property. These lots look to be abandoned. We are trespassing but it does not look like anyone is around so I think we will be alright. Let's go see this cave and what it is that you and Wain have uncovered in there Arthur.”

The three of them park Arthur’s black 1964 Dotson behind the house. They lock its doors, standard with Arthur and his car, then head on into the back forty of the property. In no time they were into a patch of thick pines and overgrown berry bushes. Then they were there at a big overgrown cave opening. It had a sweat smell, ripe. The large white quartz cream colored stone was large enough for 3 or 4 people to stand on. It was flat on top and perfectly round. They jump up on the rock.

“Look!” Arthur points to a break in the rock's center. This could be the stone that Arthur pulled the Excalibur our of.” The three of them laugh. Abe Twilight speaks up unexpectedly.

“Arthus’s sword the Excalibur, is the power bestowed by the “white stone” in which, as a legend tells us, the sword was embedded and from which he had to draw it forth. Its name (Excalibur) means that it is made or created out of the darkness. And a legend tells how in order to reach it he had to cross a narrow bridge of iron and steel- i.e. to pass over and beyond the blood and nerves of his inner experience to the very citadel of his being.” They were quite for a minute.

“Just because I’m Welsh and a cop does not mean I can’t do some snooping on my own about Arthur and the knights and lore.” He looks at the two young men who shake their heads in agreement, smiling at the 53 year old New York City Policeman.

“Anyway it’s what we found inside dad that we want you to look at. I think we found like a serious artifact. I did not go into at home as I did not want to bring Mom into it. You understand with her museum interest and all.”

“Sure Arthur take the dumb one along on your questionable ventures, I understand! No it is understood about your mother. Let’s see what we got here, o.k..”

They step off the rock continuing into the cave all while putting on their hard hats with battery powered electric minors lamps.

The tunnel is well lit with the lamps. They hurry to a place that Arthur and Wain found last week. It is a quartz formation with lots of smoky quartz in it. The lapidary stone cutter that Wain works for will give them 10 dollars for 20 pounds of clear smoky quartz crystals. They though it would be best to check with someone first before taking the rock. So Arthur asked his dad.

“Look at this dad, smoky quartz out the wazo!”

“Got that Arthur, look at the seams that run off down the tunnel. You follow that Arthur?”

“Yes and again now is as good a time as any dad now that you bring it up. And by the way do you think we could mine 20 lbs of this quartz and not get in trouble for it?”

“Looks safe enough. It is owned by someone but for now I don’t think they are going to mind a little quartz being removed from their property as long as you don't make a habit of it, then you might run into some trouble.”

“Lets get down this tunnel and we need to show you what we think is an ancient artifact.”   Arthur takes the lead as they start to walk further into the caves tunnel. He turns to Wain: “you remember the entrance?”

“Sure want me to go ahead and find it? Probably save us some time.” He runs down the tunnel out of sight. Within 30 seconds he calls out to them.

 “I found it, just ahead!”

When the others arrived Wain and Arthur lead Abe Twilight down into a narrow crack in the tunnels wall. It ran parallel off the main tunnel for 15 feet before it opened up to another wider path that now ran in the opposite direction from which they had just come. Then they had reached their destination. A form locked in the rock of the stone cave.

“Look at this, oh my God Arthur look at this! Definitely a hominid.”

In the bedrock was a 7 to 8 ft. figure of what looked to be a human fish. It has extra digits in the fingers and its toes. It had small horns protruding from the top of its head. It had an extra row of teeth seen in the wide-open mouth that appeared frozen. It looked like a combination of dolphin, shark and a human of sorts.

“If it were a monkey form I would guess 5 to 10 million years old, but this fish form I’m going 10 + million years old. What do you think dad?”

“Definitely fish form, old, how old I’m not sure. Listen we will come back this weekend and take some pictures. It is strange what ever it is or how old it is that's for sure. Look at the color, almost copper green. dame thing glows! Look at it, the color is totally different from anything I've ever seen before. I think its time to get out of here. What do you guys think?”

“I agree let’s book,” says Wain. Arthur agrees as they turn back on the path they had taken from the crack in the tunnels main passage wall side. Their little lamps burned in the dark lighting up the pathway.

“We take some pictures as proof. Do you think we have something here dad?”

“I sure do Arthur! I heard about something like this on talk radio awhile back. Can’t remember….called them… ‘cryptid’s as in Cryptozoology. That’s it this thing is an ancient artifact called a ‘cryptid’ short for findings like this. We have to keep our mouths shut on this, understand!”

Looking at the two 18 year olds he suddenly felt a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. He suddenly realized that he was the weak link in this chain, as it would kill his wife if he did not tell her about the incredible find.

“Lets get out of here now.” They quickly got out of the cave and drove Arthur’s 1964 black Dotson two door coupe back to their neighborhood. After dropping Wain off Arthur then drove back to the Twilight residence. The moon was full and the neighborhood was aglow in its light. Father and son retired to their bedrooms, soon the lights were out and the two Twilight’s joined Mrs. Twilight in deep sleep. A small candle burned on the window sill in the living room. Like angels singing these words could be heard softly floating over the neighborhood.

Wain’s mother Ann was preparing breakfast, ham and eggs, with some pancakes and caned peaches. It smelled good. The TV. in the living room was on as was his mother’s habit to do while she prepared the morning breakfast. Wain got to the kitchen first. His mother served him, he said his grace quietly and then began eating his meal. His father came in soon after, sat down poured himself a cup of coffee and then began filling his plate with pancakes from the platter on the table. Before he took a bite he bowed his head and said grace quietly to himself then began to eat his meal.

“Can smell that bacon in Caladonia woman, smells great.”

Wain continued eating and thinking about his night out last night. He could hear Mr. Twilight telling them to not tell anyone. He so wanted to tell his dad about it but held his peace. As his appetite was being satisfied his resolve began to, well wain and he began to speak to his dad.

“Dad if you were sworn to secrecy about a significant scientific discovery you and some others had made, would you tell anyone about it, or would you honor the vow to hold your peace about it?”

“I would remain silent, your word is your bond type thing son, why you and Arthur find the 'fount of youth' or some alien type thing. You guys should start an adventure school, take people around to all the interesting stuff you guys come up with. The alphabets will be calling you guys for help. In answer to your question though I would hold my peace and see what happens.”

Wain laughs at his Irish fireman dad's remarks and continues eating his breakfast. He drank his juice and then turned to face his dad. Cain and Ann Wright had been married 20 yrs and Wain was their only child. They thought he was a prince of boy and encouraged him in all ways conceivable.

“I think we found a ‘cryptid’ out by the old white cypress quarry.”

 “You think you found what?”

“I think we found an ancient artifact out at the rock quarry. We are going to take some pictures of it tonight. I’ll show them to you when I get them developed.”

“Son you got it going! Keep it up, those things are worth a lot of money. School still in the picture? Classes for the semester have started and you like your school right? You are still the kid on Long Island and not Indiana Jones yet?”

“Right dad school is fine. I have some good classes this year, it should be o.k... So you would not tell a soul right? I think the state has an antiquities law about these type of things so we will just have to find out about that. But in the mean time what do you think about it?”

“Right, not a soul. Find out what laws are involved and keep your mouth shut. Son your mom and I need grades right? We have an understanding on that one, right?”

“Right dad, the grades will beee.., I promise.” His dad gave his bright son a big smile and then continued eating his breakfast. They did not say another word as they finished their meals.

Around the corner, over on the next block from the Wrights home Blossom Rosenkreutz is just arriving at Arthur Twilight's home. Knocking on the Twilight's front door she is greeted by Merry Twilight warmly, having heard so much about her from Arthur. She sits her down in the living room, lights a candle on the small lamp stand and goes back into the kitchen continuing to prepare the mornings breakfast. She starts to talk to her guest asking her first if she would like to stay for breakfast.  Having just eaten at home before dropping in on the Twilight's Blossom calls back to Merry Twilight.

"No thank you Mrs. Twilight, I just ate."

"I've heard so much about you Blossom, I hope you know that? Arthur tells me you are going into Medicine?" "That must be hard I bet."

"No actually Mrs. Twilight I like it a lot. Not hard at all really. Medicine made easy I guess. Enjoyable is a better way to describe my experience with the program."

Merry had stepped back into the living room as Blossom was speaking. She watched the candle flame burn as Blossom spoke. The little flame sprung up dancing happily, as if it was in a cloud of sustenance feeding the flame. It was a happy flame with the air producing answer that Blossom Rosenkreutz was now sharing with her. She was read by the candle to be speaking the truth. Merry Twilight liked this young woman of such forthright honesty.

No longer had she been there than she bolted for the door. Just before opening the door to leave she turns to Merry Twilight and said: "your son Arthur is a gentleman and a scholar, you probably know that already, you and your husband must be very proud of him?"

"Yes we are Blossom, thank you so much for saying that. And for stopping in. Stay longer next time, o.k." She left then with Arthur following a few minutes later skipping his breakfast, grabbing a bagel instead as he left the house.

Arthur got in his 1964 Dotson coupe for the first day of school. He was picking up Wain at his house. As he drove along the car’s vibrations within the coupe were so loud you could not hear the radio that was playing.

"Blossom came by. I think I love her Wain. The good lady is most lovely good knight."

The two knights laugh out loud as the radio blasts some rock techno tune, they smile at each other as Arthur drives them to school that morning at Chardin High on Long Island. Pulling into the parking lot they met up with Ira and Kanu who were walking to the ROTC center on campus. They were both 18 years old and had ambitions of joining the military as soon after graduation as they could. They were being smart about it seeing what they could set up for options and programs offered them after their graduations from Chardin High.

“Say hey dudes, you guys going to the bonfire Friday night?"

“Sure dudes we will be there, you guys going too?.. Say who do you have for U.S. History? “

“Mr. Baulder second period. You? Cool! See you there. Peace out.”

“Peace out.” Arthur and Wain walked on to their first period class, World Civilization. As they were about to walk into the classroom Arthur turns to Wain and says,

“This should be good. Miss C. Downs presents herself to us my good knight Wain for discussions of the world's civilizations. That being western civilizations of course, our presses, our money and our interpretation of the way it was, starting with the Greeks on to the land of the free.” They smile at each other as they walk into the classroom.

“Power of the pen..or was that the power of the printing presses you were referring to my good Arthur? Now presenting the good knight Arthur to Miss C. Downs, ” Wain says under his breath as they take seats in the back of the classroom.

The classroom was fresh and clean, seemed to shine. The two took seats in the very back of the classroom. They were 5 minutes early and the only ones in the classroom accept the teacher. She was Ceridwen Downs in her 50's, black haired and very tall. She was strikingly beautiful with her long ravens black hair and sea green eyes. She did not look at her two students seated now in the classroom as she busied herself preparing notes while keeping her eyes down. She turned to write her name on the blackboard catching their eyes. After a moments deliberation on her part she spoke to them.

“Hello I’m Miss Downs. You must be let’s see.. Well I’m not really sure who you are or if I could even figure it out. Never mind, why don’t you just introduce yourselves?”  She wrote her name in excellent, large Palmer correct cursive on the blackboard that filled up the entire front wall of the classroom. Miss C. Downs.

From the back of the room Arthur called back to the tall, long black haired teacher: “Sure I’m Arthur Twilight and this is my trusty knight Wain Wright.”

“Knights you are?”  she replied to Arthur. “Why yes fair teacher, are you in distress?” the young knight bandied back to her.

“First day, new semester jitters, if you must know my inner most thoughts. So bold you are Arthur, I hope you like World Civilization, so many facts, names, battles, places, you know?”

As if they had stepped into another time suddenly Arthur and Wain were as on a reflecting lake, on an island mirror. They saw Miss Ceridwen Downs holding what appeared to be a visible then slowly disappearing egg. Merlin appeared out of a dark as pitch evening lakeshore and spoke to them.

“Here you are once again, remember ‘the cell of Ceridwen’ that was covered by the flat stone of Echemeint?(1) ‘To be initiated means, in more senses than one, to “know the beginnings’. In the shadows of the dark mirror and the shadows of the stones a perception of something is seen where the physical sun is missing.” He faded over the Island's mirror lake. (1)

Ira and Kanu walked in the classroom wearing their fatigues, looking buff and ready for the day. They took seats next to their friends. Miss Ceridwen Downs was relieved to see two new faces in the room, now others began filling the seats in the classroom.

Over the next ten minutes the students would continue arriving until about 33 students were seated in the classroom. Miss Ceridwen Downs control that first morning was completely lost. Arthur stared through the confusion and just looked at the new teacher. As the students were catching up on the summer's news she would just stare at him. It seemed the two of them were in another world. Lutes and flutes softly playing from where unknown but could be heard by the two of them. Suddenly it was very quiet in the classroom as all attention turned to the two now locked in a stare that was unawares of all around them.

Wain hit Arthur on the arm; “hey good sir the business at hand is at hand.” Arthur kicked out of it and the students all laughed at the two entranced figures.

Miss Downs was a new World Civilization 1 teacher at Chardain High School in Long Island, New York. She tells them about her academic credentials, her many years teaching World Civilization and what she will expect from them during the semester. She asks if any one has questions, no one does, so she ends the class early. As the students are leaving Arthur walks up to the teacher and says, “Hello, I was not sure if you wanted us to read the Arthur tale tonight or if...”

“I never said anything about Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. You must have been hearing things.” She smiled so wide he thought he was going to be swallowed by her charm. She was so captivating and now up close to her he noticed that she wore a hyacinth blue eyeliner. He felt as if he had come under a spell similar to the frog being hypnotized as it's belly is being rubbed.

“I was hearing things.., music. Did you hear it?”

“Of course Arthur I heard it, did you want anything?”

“No.. no.. just wanted to know… ah, what does the ‘C’ stand for in your name.”

“Ceridwen, see you Wednesday Arthur. Look forward to this semester with you.”

“Yes see you Miss Downs, see you Wednesday morning.”

The four friends walk to the second period class that they are taking together. It is U.S. History with Mr. Ben Baldur. He was a well-liked teacher at the high school and really enjoyed teaching his subject matter. He had been teaching at Chardain High for 20 years.

As the boys walked in he greeted them. "Welcome young soldiers, welcome in these hallowed halls of the great Republic. Please sign the register for funding purposes and then have a seat.”  The boys signed in and took seats in the front of the room, continuing their conversations until it was class time.

“Students rise please and say with me the pledge of allegiance.” The class in a haphazard fashion said the pledge. It would get better over the year. It was a goal of Mr. Ben Baldur's that the pledge of allegiance would sound better at the term’s end than it sounded at the term’s beginning, due in large part to his students new found appreciation for living in the United States of America.

“O.K. homework for the semester is getting a copy of Thomas Paine’s Common Sense and start reading it. First quiz on chapter one is a week from Friday, that’s two weeks for you mathematically challenged out there. Two weeks, first quiz on Thomas Paine’s Common Sense. Class dismissed.”

The students pour out of the classroom and spread out across the campus like quail heading only who knows where. As the school day ended Arthur asked Ira and Kanu if they wanted to see a white rock they found at the cypress quarry. They said sure and the four of them were off one following the other as they drove their cars out to the cypress rock quarry.

“It’s back here, followed me and Wain.”  They walked past the abandoned house and went straight into the woods. Soon they were standing at the white rock next to the cave entrance. They jumped up on the rock just large enough for the four of them to stand on and marveled at how smooth and round it was.

“Look here in the center of the stone. It looks like a crack, as if something was embedded in it, see the crack, looks like the blade of the Excalibur could fit right into it.” Wain points out the crack as he bends down to have a closer look at it.

“Look Arthur, it is in the perfect outline of a blade that was at least 5 inches wide at the butt or hilt of the sword. This was a serious weapon if that’s what it was.”

All four of the young men were now studying the indentation in the milky white stone. They were quite now looking at the strange stones features that made it seem so out of place. Then Kanu spoke up.

“It’s Merlin's magic carpet, he surfed it over here after the knights were disbanded. He got it originally while in the south seas drinking some ambrosia with the Phoenician shamans and their ladies thousands of years ago. He broke it out for the Knights of the Round Table and then after Camelot was finished it ended up here, like I said, Merlin's magic carpet.”

“O. K. like we were not going to ask. What’s in the bear’s lair, like you have not been exploring that place” he says pointing towards the entrance” Ira said.

“Athur blurts out: ‘forgot the lamps’. He continues with his protest: “it’s real dark in there, nothing really”. “Little quartz, dank water, lots of bats, not much else really.”

“Hey dude its o.k. I won’t trespass on your find, whatever it is. I was just curious.”

Ira looks at Kanu: “Sure Ira I understand. It’s not real exciting in there, just another cave really.”

“I don’t know why but my gut level feeling is that you in fact found something in there and this strange rock table has something to do with it. Do I get a read on that Ira?”

“That’s a loud clear read K. what’s up Arthur? You guys on to something here?”  Just then the big white clear rock begins to move under their feet.

“Oh man what is it an earthquake or something” Wain calls out.

Ira says “I just hope it isn't that power plant over there”.

“Man I think it’s this rock we are standing on” Arthur says. The boys stayed put and waited for the rock to steady which it did when all four of them were paying attention to the movement while looking down at the rock. Several seconds later they looked up at each other and together said “wow”.

“That was strange. I have never seen any rock like this before.”  Arthur jumped off the rock, Ira followed, then Wain leaving  Kanu to do his best surfing imitation on the white round stone.

“Listen you guys we will meet you here tomorrow at twilight or around 7 which ever is first. We want to show you something in the cave. Bring your little lamps.”

“So we nailed them” Ira says turning to Kanu who laughs.

“Ira and Kanu can smell  rats man, we busted you guys.”

They all laugh in agreement “up to no good but the truth comes out. We have our lamps dudes, see you tomorrow evening, 7’s twilight is a good time for us, right Ira?” They all agree, ‘see you two tomorrow then’.

“High adventure is about to start for the Knights of the Round Table again Wain.”

“Sounds of it good Knight Arthur, tomorrow then to see you two good knights once again in the evening twilight..”

“Sure Wain see you and the good Knight Arthur in tomorrow’s eve.”

“Let’s get out of here Ira.”  Arthur says as they run out to their cars: “It’s a pitch twilight now, be a hand’s black real quick now!”

“We agree good knight, lets get out of here before that rock decides to come with us as well.” They all laugh and scamper out of there like four young hares on the way to their warm burrows.

It was warm inside the Twilight house that night. Merry was baking some beer cake and practicing her recorder. A candle burned on a small end table in the living room. She enjoyed sitting in front of her music stand playing Telemann on her recorder while watching the flame dance to the pitch of her notes. Over the years she even learned to watch the flames of candles respond to visitors as they would be visiting the Twilight's home. She observed that those who were truthful had an expansive effect on the flames size and those who had not the truth in them seemed to smother the candle's flame.

She was baking when Arthur came down stairs from his bedroom. He went into the living room, sitting on the couch to read his copy of 'Common Sense' by Thomas Paine. The first chapter was short enough and relatively painless to read. He seemed to even enjoy the cadence of the writer’s 1776 language and what it was that Thomas Paine was saying way back then at the Nation's founding. When he had finished the first chapter his mother had already gone to bed. He turned the lights off downstairs and went off towards his bedroom, stopping off  to brush his teeth, then it was off to bed quickly and sweet sleep. A small candle burned in a clay candle holder that was set on the front window sill of the living room.

Next day it was raining hard. As children were running into the buildings at school Arthur and Wain sat out in the Datsun just waiting for the rain to break. They were not listening to the radio as the electrical storm overhead was in full force.

Wain pretending says: “How about a little electric guitar about now” faking a move for the radio knob. They laugh with Arthur saying back to his friend “electrifying thought” but I think we have enough ‘lightning in a bottle’ for today.”

“Electrify thought my good Knight Arthur. Does school sound its call to us now?”

“Yes I hear it afar calling out to me.. ‘help’ so our duty calls good Knight Wain.”

“Yes our good duty calls Knight Arthur.” They slowly get out of the Datsun, lock the doors and run for the school buildings. It was as a gray black pitched morning, looked more like evening. The friends walked into their classes patiently waiting until the bell rang for dismissal at 2:45 that afternoon. It had rained on and off all day and was still looking like a pitch gray afternoon.

As they were leaving Luna and Blossom catch up to them. They looked at the two young men and smiled.

The young knights smiled back and asked them how they were.

“We are fine and yourselves, how are you guys doing?"

"First few days of school can be bad or good depending on how you look at it I guess.

" The 'Social /Medical - Physician program' is great, I think I'm going to like it."

You Arthur you got any good classes this semester?"

"Well it's hard not to like Mr. Ben Baldur’s U.S.History."

“O.K. my favorite teacher, excellent! I will see you there good man.”

They laugh together and Arthur says to them: "you want to go to the New Links Cafe?"

They pounce: “sure enough, lead the way good men.”

Off like the free spirits they are they drive off into downtown Long Island.

“Oh my full name is Blossom Rosenkreutz and you are a knight Arthur.” Arthur heard it clear as a bell.

“Blossom Rosenkreutz that’s a nice name very templar sounding, your dad a bond salesman or something?" he says back to her in his mind.

"Yes" loud as bell, it reverberated in his ears for a few seconds.

"Like it, Blossom Rosenkreutz, the rosy cross."

" Thanks. My parents are big on flowers, told me my color reminded them of a pink rose when I was born.”

“Sounds like you have nice parents Miss Blossom Rosenkreutz..”

“I do.” And you Arthur your parents?”

“Fine as fine!”

“So good talking to you this way Blossom Rosenkreutz, I must say it is invigorating. I have never had E.S.P. with anyone before. My parents but that doesn't count because you like want that to happen. That's stacking the deck a little bit, but you, you are talking to me as we are driving to the New Links Cafe right now and that, good lady Blossom Rosenkreutz, is unique.”

They pulled into the parking lot of the New Links Café, parked next to each other, got out, locked their cars, and walked into the cafe.

The first thing Arthur noticed about Blossom when they sat down was her mouth and her beautiful full lips. She seemed to be speaking with them while she smiled at him. Once seated they ordered herb and green teas along with some hot buttered whole grain bran muffins.

“What do you think of Thomas Paine?”

Arthur was taken back by the question momentarily then said, “I like him very much. You obviously got through the first chapter, what do you think of him?”

“I like him. I look forward to reading the work for Mr. Baldur's class. You?”

“Yes, ten fold! I must say good lady I look forward to this shared academic experience with you as well.”

“Mutual good knight Arthur Twilight. By the way, that is quite a ‘sir name, ‘Twilight’ you say?”

 “Old Welsh my Lady.”

“You say, the old Welsh?” After a moments reflection she said: “Why Arthur you must be the lad eternal found on the borderlands in the Westland’s.”

“Must be my fine lady. And you are you the Blossom of the sun come to brighten my life, yes?”

“I am fine knight Arthur and you are such a pleasure to behold. You must come, sweet man, to my cabin out on the point of Long Island. My parents won’t even know your out there. It’s out on the sounds tip, 5 miles from here.” Arthur could have died right there but he knew it was only twilight with the night soon behind.

“I am here to serve and to do your bidding good lady. I must call my parents and let them know I will be running late tonight.” Arthur felt as if he was in a dream as he looked into her bright shining face. He felt at peace with the world.

They left the New Links Café leaving Wain and Luna to drive home in Luna's car.

They spent the twilight evening sitting on the porch of Blossom's cabin that was set off from the main house. They talked into the dark night.

"Is that Plum Island out there Blossom?"

"The one and only, bugs central."

"Hope security is better there than at our power plants. Tough occupation lately. The D.N.A. sequencing and vaccine knowledge base is under assault around the world, the world press has picked it up finally. Guess they got a bug in their ear." they laugh then are quiet looking out on the evening dusk. After a few minutes Arthur said,

"The Center for Disease Control in Atlanta is a mess. We need to get that place together or it could be a big problem for us, asleep at the wheel of fortune."

"Could be, good knight, but you will protect me from such phlegma, The corpus of industry in all its glory is very uncontrolled and very powerful. Seems to me that business runs most the governments of the world today. And checks and balances of government have nothing on change in the business world. Dangerous mix... Arthur, hold me in your arms."

Laughing, they hugged, touched and kissed each other as they drifted out into the far distances of the starry night. They saw a falling meteor, it seemed to fill them with courage, as their blood ran thick. They reminisced about old friends, parties, while laughing into the night out on the Long Island sound. It was a special night for them and was over as quick as it had come, gone like a dream ending or the glow of a fire's embers fading to cool.

"I must take leave of you now good lady. My parents are expecting me home now. I do hope to see you again very soon."

"You will Arthur, my good man, you will." A fine mist filled the night and covered the waters of the sound. Like a dew from heaven or a hot pool of molten lead splashing into the cold waters Arthur Twilight takes leave of Blossom Rosenkreutz. The rush of love he felt for Blossom was fixed in his heart like a lode stone found and treasured.

The next day at Chardain High Arthur was talking to his good friend Wain.  Together they sat at the black stone the air full of chivalrous talk of maidens and new friends made. In truth telling tales filled with the beauty and honor found in life for them all. They are like islands on the mirrored lake, these 24 Knights of the Round Table and their band of friends.

Walking into Miss Ceridwen Downs’s classroom they noticed that she was not standing up front rather she was walking in the back of the classroom. As they took their seats in the back of the classroom she walked by them.

“My good knights with the lively imaginations. How are you both this dark, cold morning?”  Arthur feeling decidedly uncomfortable with her comments and close proximity took out his smoky quartz and set it on his desktop. She did not bat an eyelash walking over to his desk to look at the quartz rock.

“Smokey quartz, an excellent subtle occulting occlusion quality, even transparent but occlusion with a very faint trace of smokiness. Very nice specimen. Get it just north of town? The old rock quarry?”  Arthur was non-pulsed for a moment, catching his breath and composure he replied to the tall, raven-haired teacher.

”No east over the highlands out by the swamps.” He knew, she knew he was lying about the location but he did not care. He did not want to tell her where he found the crystal or anything else for that matter.

“The occluded yet transparent qualities are very nice Arthur. You are a very interesting specimen Arthur. Do you like the Ancient Greeks, I so hope you do. I just love Plato. Perhaps we will read the Republic this semester. I have read it many times. And you my good knight have you read the philosopher yet?”

“By time I was 16.”

“Oh you are something else Mr. Arthur Twilight, I am going to have to keep my eye on the philosopher ruler as well as the round table knight this semester.”

She walks to the front of the class calling it to order. The rest of the morning in her class was like time in a refrigerated meat locker. At the bell they booked out of there heading for their U.S.History class with Mr. Ben Baldur. As they walk along they meet Ira Johannes and Kanu Wavs in the halls moving along to their next class.

“U.S.History, long live the Republic” Ira calls out to his friends as they approach each other.

They responded with, “long Live the Republic.”

It is the anthem for the young knights.  They walk into the classroom together. Mr. Ben Baldur gives them a wide broad smile as he stands at his desk watching his classroom fill up like a warm tub of water spiraling in like a torrent of life, rushing to the river of life.

“O.K. troops pull the dangerous book out. Anyone not having a copy could be lined up against the wall and given a vaccination.” The class laughs. “And you think I’m kidding do you?’ Saying nothing more on the subject of mandatory vaccinations he moves on to the task at hand.

“Anyone get a chance yet to break this thing open?” holding the book up to the class, spotting Amy raising her hand he says: “yes!” The class laughs and once again another school year unfolds as it had for years in his class’s. Learning was safe here in this classroom today.

“I like him. Really I do and I think it is going to very informative to read this book.”  A few of the students could be heard laughing at what they had just heard but for the most part Thomas Paine and his Common Sense had captured one more of Mr. Ben Baldur’s classes. Outside the fall colors of the tree's leaves mixed in the mornings still gray pitch of an overcast morning..

“I think it is a great work.” It was Blossom speaking up, then Jasmine raised her hand and said the same: “I liked it too”. A few other students called out that they thought it was hard to read due to the vernacular of that 1776 era. The class erupted into a torrent of opinion and descent. Mr. Ben Baldur called out to his class, arms raised over his head, the class slowly coming to repose.. momentarily, in a minute or so.

“As you can see this is a work that gets people worked up. Remember a week for this Friday, next Friday right? We are having a pop quiz. Got it? Now anyone want to volunteer to read the first paragraph, you can read more if you wish.”

Blossom raised her hand immediately and Mr. Baldur called on her. He could recognize students who got it immediately and never failed to draw them in to the round of the class’s learning curve. They were a class’s pulse, if they did not show the whole ordeal was for naught. The chargers were the leaven of the classroom and Mr. Ben Baldur knew this.  She started reading from the introduction to Common Sence as the class fell into a near total silence, the words now ringing true once again as they have for hundreds of years.

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

“Perhaps the sentiments contained in the following pages, are not yet sufficiently fashionable to procure them general favor; a long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom. But the tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason.” Blossom looked up at Mr.Baldur, smiled wide and sat down. Hands flew up to read the next paragraph. Mr. Baldur flashed a big smile at his enthusiastic class and called upon another student to read aloud.

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

"As a long and violent abuse of power, is generally the Means of calling the right of it in question (and in matters too which might never have been thought of, had not the Sufferers been aggravated into the inquiry) and as the King of England had undertaken in his own Right, to support the Parliament in what he calls Theirs, and as the good people of this country are grievously oppressed by the combination, they have an undoubted privilege to inquire into the pretensions of both, and equally to reject the usurpation of either."

Ira Johannes raised his hand. Mr Baldur called on him.

"'They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety'. What about Ben Franklin wasn't he even more influential Mr Thomas Paine. He was an inventor with discoveries that we still benefit from today and he was a thinker, prided himself in being a patriot and was after all a founding father of this Democratic Republic the United States of America. Mr. Paine on the other hand does not even come close to these accomplishments of Mr. Ben Franklin."

The class broke out in open discussions among themselves. Mr. Baldur smiled at the class, smiling at them is sheer joy because the enthusiasm of the class was for him what teaching was all about. He found the classes response to Ira's comments exhilarating.

Someone could be heard saying, "Three may keep a secret if two of them are dead." Laughing, a student calls out to his classmates 'hey that sounds like a motto for the Hell's Angels but it was old Franklin who coined that phrase wasn't it Ira?"

'That's right' now Ira and several of his friends were having a Franklin quote fest as Mr Baldur patiently waited for the classes attention to return to him as he patiently stood at the front of the class listening to the students exchanges.

'Opportunity is the great baud.' I thought that was" in a faint Welsh accent Wain Wright says, "Lady Anna I presume." The class laughs at his theatrics.

Mr. Baldur joined in at this point saying, "I'm looking". The class laughed at his comment and liked the fact that he was with the class in spirit enough to chime in with the witticisms as well.

'What is serving God? Tis doing Good to Man' or 'better to say prayers than to say no prayers at all' - 'that's my quote man' Kanu says to Ira, not bad huh?"

"He that lieth down with Dogs, shall rise up with Fleas."

"1962-63 Whiskey a Go Go Sunset Bl. Hollywood, California was the epicenter for the dope dogs. It was a mix of government, organized crime and entertainers that came up with a plan to make some extra cash. It boomeranged on a lot of people, stringing out thousands of artists, middle class parents, kids and anybody else in the way."

'That's Franklin?' someone asked.

'No that's what my dad told me. He was around those parts back then working for the government. Says a lot of lives, ambitions and abilities were diverted, via this altering."

'The worst wheel of a cart makes the most noise' that is a Franklin quote. I think it has some connection to what you just said about the narcotic ride of those years. Lines of white powders connected to cables of white noise to railroaded in paradise."

After a minute of the classes fermenting he raises his arms and starts waving the class down, like a conductor calling an orchestras attention to quite.

"Ira makes a good point and as you can hear his quotes are remember today though often people don't even know who coined them to begin with. Rest assured we will cover Mr. Ben Franklin with our study of the founding fathers. Mr. Franklin was and is a lynch pin of the great Democratic Republic of these United States of America. Clearly from your demonstrative outpouring I think we can all agree on that."

Arms shot up across the classroom. He thought to himself this is going to get started into something that will take us away for the task at hand. I think we better head on with Paine or we will be with Franklin for the rest of the period. Ira must have been talking about this with his fellow patriot R.O.T.C. brothers and sisters. Patriot American youth, great to see, he thought to himself. If he could only bottle it and give it back to them when they hit their 50's and would then need this jet stream of fresh and enthusiastic energy.

"Alright back to 'Common Sense' and Mr. Thomas Paine please class. Yes Jim would you like to continue with the reading?"

"Yes sir I would."

"Head on good man."

They were off and running, education and America were in full stride that morning. The chimes of freedom were ringing like wisps of clear winter air, chilled by the wind, nipping now at the ears, it could be heard, it could be felt. As the student finished reading his or her paragraph hands would fly in the air to do the next reading. The students would read paragraph after paragraph and so it went for the rest of the 45 minute class getting well into the body of the text.

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

"In the following sheets, the author hath studiously avoided every thing which is personal among ourselves. Compliments as well as censure to individuals make no part thereof. The wise, and the worthy, need not the triumph of a pamphlet; and those whose sentiments are injudicious, or unfriendly, will cease of themselves unless too much pains are bestowed upon their conversion."

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

"The cause of America is in a great measure the cause of all mankind. Many circumstances hath, and will arise, which are not local, but universal, and through which the principles of all Lovers of Mankind are affected, and in the Event of which, their Affections are interested. The laying of a Country desolate with Fire and Sword, declaring War against the natural rights of all Mankind, and extirpating the Defenders thereof from the Face of the Earth, is the Concern of every Man to whom Nature hath given the Power of feeling; of which Class, regardless of Party Censures, is the

THE AUTHOR.
Philadelphia, Feb. 14, 1776

"P.S. The Publication of this new Edition hath been delayed, with a View of taking notice (had it been necessary) of any Attempt to refute the Doctrine of Independence: As no Answer hath yet appeared, it is now presumed that none will, the Time needful for getting such a Performance ready for the Public being considerably past."

"Who the Author of this Production is, is wholly unnecessary to the Public, as the Object for Attention is the Doctrine itself, not the Man. Yet it may not be unnecessary to say, That he is unconnected with any Party, and under no sort of Influence public or private, but the influence of reason and principle."

"Some writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness; the former promotes our happiness Positively by uniting our affections, the latter negatively by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first is a patron, the last a punisher."

end of Thomas Paines 'Common Sense' reading.

Common Sense (1776) by Thomas Paine never failed the teacher Mr. Ben Baldur, bringing his students to the round table of hearty and heated discussions while on the bumpy road to learning.

After class the four seniors are walking to their 3rd period classes when Kanu says:

"Franklin was a hatter at heart, granted a very intelligent one."

"Intelligent!" Ira calls out as they continue walking across the open campus: "the guy was a genius, hatter or not. Who cares about rumors, do they diminish his contributions to the founding of the Nations Democratic Republic as a whole? No of course not, not a nanometer, not a gnats ass or bow fiddles flea, or whatever!"

"A bow fiddles flea? you mean a flea's bow fiddle don't your?"

"Hey I said 'whatever' just making my point. To be defiling the name of the great man is more than I want to hear, understand? America does not make Franklins, Jeffersons or Washingtons anymore, so to knock them is really missing the point I think."

Wain weighs in : "Who says Benjamin Franklin was not learning about pediatric surgery at the Royal Academy of Medicine in London? Just happened to have a lab set up at his pad. We don't really know. Could be a lie floated by the British to smash our respect for the great man."

"O.K. guys I see your allegiance to Ben is unwavering so I will cease and desist. Probably bogus like the anthem of the 60's 'lose your mind come to your senses' wicked hype."

"Peace out good knight Arthur, see you at the 'black stone' for lunch." Ira and the others walk on to their third period classes.

That afternoon the young men and women met in the school cafeteria for lunch. They gathered at a large round black table they had nicknamed the 'black stone'. The name was derived from some information that Jasmine had shared with them several years earlier. It was that the Saudi Arabian holy place of Mecca was in fact the site where a large black meteorite was housed. It was covered by a large box structure and was the site for pilgrimages of the Muslim faithful every year. Muslims were by faith to make the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their lifetimes. Thus the name for their meeting place in the cafeteria at the smooth black marble round table was christened 'black stone'. Jasmine, Arthur, Wain, Ira, Kanu, James, Blossom, Abe, Jewel, Henry and Luna were as knights and ladies at the black stone round table.

"Time anyone?" Abe asked while setting his watch

"A minute to 12" Jasmine says.

'So precise Jas, that must come from your singing the blues, it's all in the timing right?"

"Yo whoa pilgrim, that and the season, hot in the summer, cool in the winter" Jasmine replies.

"You signed up for jazz and blues band 6th period this semester Abe?" Jasmine asked as she is studying what her mother has put together for her lunch this day, usually bland, as her mother was a dietitian at the local hospital on Long Island.

"You bet cha Jas, me and Ira will be blowing Alto Saxophones for you. Would not miss it for the world, right Ira?" Ira smiles wide nodding in agreement. Jasmine continues saying to the others:

"Heard Mr. Tones Jones is putting a choir into the mix this semester, should be great. Arthur you playing your snare drum this semester?"

"That's a 10- 4 so very good a lady."

"We will be having some fun, that is a for sure!  Jackie is coming into the band I heard. That lady can sing the blues like nobody, believe me."

"We are talking a band of angels" Ira added.

The black stone round table was congealing around the new semester and all looked well on the horizon. It was unusually nice outside now with the fog lifting, in fact it was unusually nice for this time of the year.

That afternoon students were gathering in Chardin High's music room. Arthur and Wain met up with some of the 'black stone' crew taking their seats for the class. This semester Mr. Tones Jones, Chardin's Afro-American music teacher was putting a choir together with the band. The students would be working on a musical for the Christmas season faire that was held at the high school every winter. It was going to be the biggest production that the band had ever put together at Chardin High. Jonathan Edwards, Arthur Twilight, Elphin Taliesin and several other students were working on the lyrics already. It was going to be a big musical with two acts for the choir to sing with the bands horn, string and drum sections providing the music. It was going to be patterned on a Broadway musical production with Mr. Tones Jones conducting the performance.

Mr. Tones Jones brought the class to attention striking his baton on his music stand. The students came to attention as Mr. Jones asked them to take their instruments out and start tuning up. Members of the choir begin singing scales as he walks over to the sound system and puts on the Antonnio Vivaldi Concerto in C for Mandolines.

"Antonnio Vivaldi wrote this Concerto in C for Mandolin part 3 Allegro moderato specifically for mandolins. I thought we might expand our arrangement adding three tenor guitars and a bass guitar playing the music we write in C major.

"Jonathan have you some lyrics we can work with yet?"

"Yes Sir, I have a working title and a rough draft of the first act. I figure the work would be two acts, each act running 15 minutes. Our working title is 'This Healing Feeling flows Through the Lands'. Here's the lyrics so far."

As this healing feeling flows through the lands,
what is, never was, what was, will never be again.

"Knowest thou what thou are
In the hour of sleep-
a mere body- a mere soul-
Or a secret retreat of the light?" (1)

"Good Jonathan, I like it. Has a medieval quality to it. Choir do you think you can work with these words?" The choir starts to sing the first couple of lines and it sounds beautiful as if they had hear and sang the words before.

"Do we have any other songs we want to try out today?"

Blossom and Elphin Taliesin raised their hands and said that they both had some lyrics for songs that they would like to introduce. Mr. Jones said fine, asking the mandolin, string and horn sections to play a C scale tuning up their instruments. The singers run through voice exercises warming their vocal cords up while the percussion section warms up as well. The  numerous percussionists filled the room with their warm up, seemed no one was turned away from the percussion section. Like the many threads of a weaving not yet wove their music began to fill the room.

"Alright Blossom first and then Elphin lets hear what you two have. Blossom why don't you share your lyrics now."

"Sure Mr. Jones here goes."

Kill our kings John, Robert, Martin many more to block the way.
33 paragraphs of the Constitution, where does it score, do not obey it ?
A harvest caught in dirty ill labs mason jars, bought and caught as from afar.
Give me a glass bottom boat when I sail home over the reflecting stars.

The class is silent then Mr. Jones says: "Heavy Blossom, very socio-political with some well turned phrasing. Good work."

"A negative said with positive words Mr. Jones. This is what I am learning about in my 'social medicine' course. Speak 'positive about negative things', works every time."

" O.K. Blossom I think we got that concept. Now Elphin,  good man what do you have for me this afternoon. What will you bless us with this afternoon good poet. What do you wish to add to this revelatory, work in progress, brew?"

Elphin a short electric guitar player 15 years old stands up saying: "Yes, yes Mr. very cool, Jones." The band and chorus laughs as he begins his reading.

So radiant, radiant upon our brows we can stop eating our cattle,
fuel cell cars allow for clean air, providing clean water to win this battle.
'Feed us, free us' all peoples of the world starving and dying of thirst,
destiny and evolution found in self knowledge rather than profits Hearst.

A radiant brow on the path of self knowledge leaves rivers tossing,
above the thrashing water we rise with the high roads crossing.
World's 24 hrs a day flat land can mold souls, events of world history.
We know ourselves around the folds and bends of our own life's story.

Elphin sits down. Mr. Tones Jones stares at the class for a minute, then says, "O.K. Elphin! What we have here are very clear lyrics about the world we find ourselves living in today. I can see you people are serious about making this musical a vehicle for some statements as well. I think your are beginning to understand the role of the artist in any civilized country. I can hear that! So lets get started!" he said excitedly then continuing.

"We have heard some rough, 1st and 2nd drafts for lyrics to work with those have pretty much condensed. So build your music around your words and I think you will have something. Well lets go. Colors anyone? weaving through the words and the mood changes found in the text?"

Jasmine raised her hand saying: "blue and green".

Wain calls out: "red, lots of red in there, you know the passions of a great people."

Fine lets work with those colors blue, green and red for a few minutes and see what we come up with. Green and blue in the scale of say C major 4 - 4 time tempo. Two acts, act one in a 4 - 4 tempo cheering up your serious lyrics, act 2 in C at a 2-4 tempo."

He walks over to the sound system and sets the volume at a low level and starts to keep time with the Vivaldi concerto as he looks out to the students who have started to improvise with the piece.

7’s evening twilight at cypress rock quarry

That evening the four young men drive out to the quarry parking far enough away not to arouse any suspicions. They brought miners lamps and wore hard hats as they entered the cave walking back to where the two had discovered the 'cryptid' several days before.

"Look at that thing!" Kanu says to the others excitedly.

"Looks like a fish" Ira adds. Wain takes out his camera and starts taking some pictures of the artifact.

"It's glowing man, look at that" Ira says.

"You guys have to keep this to yourselves, we don't want the media coming in here or the state for that matter before we can find out what our rights are regards making this discovery, or if we have any rights at all."

"Rights, man this is an antiquity, a historical artifact, I think the Feds will come in and send it to the Smithsonian, put it in a crate somewhere in their basement" Kanu says. "You guys won't have any rights then and nobody will probably even see this thing. Careful with the development of the film Wain, that could get you in trouble too."

The young men bend over and start examining the fossil. As they are touching the skeletal remains Ira notices a light down the tunnel about 20 yards. It is a faint yellow light barely discernable.

"Arthur, look at that."

"What?"

"Down there, a light."

They look up and together they gasp as the light seems to respond to their gaze.

"Now that is strange! See that! It is actually responding to our looking at it."

"All for one one for all, lets explore good knights" Ira said.

The four young men walk down the cave tunnel to where the light was emanating from. It was a crack in the wall running along a quartz seam. Fresh tailings were on the ground and it appeared that the opening had been triggered just as the young men were examining the 'criptid'. It was barely big enough for them to squeeze through.

"I think we better put our gas masks on for this exploration, never know what we might encounter once inside."

They take their masks out of their packs put them on and enter the opening. It was a long shaft that ran at a sloping grade for about a hundred yards and then opened up into a large hall. To their amazement they found the walls covered with paintings of three sailing ships.

"Look at them, ancient sailing vessels."

As they looked on astonished at what they were seeing Arthur notices something in the floor.

" Look at that, a white stone set in the floor."

” We have a stone in Maui that is shaped like a sailing vessel; it is white with carved star maps for navigating the world’s oceans set in red outlines. This thing could be a cryptid too." The others agreed whole-heartedly.

“You know there is a legend that the Knights of the Round Table sat at a white rock table".

“Sure Ira and how did it get here?’ Kanu asked his friend.

“I don’t know but you know about the Hawaiian magic tradition maybe it was levitated over here, a sort of passing of the mantel to the North American continent.”

It was covered in the dirt of the caves floor and barely discernable at first. The four young men began sweeping the dirt away with their hands fanning out over the circumference of the room. The mostly hidden stone became larger as they cleared away more of the dirt. Slowly it revealed itself as large enough to fill the entire room with only a few feet left to the cave walls. It was perfectly round and seemed to have lines running over it with marks designating particular places on the stone.

"You know Arthur I think that stone at the caves entrance is like a marker leading to this great stone."

"I think you are right Wain and this is a huge round stone....table." As he said that the stone slowly, imperceptibly at first, began to move.

"Did you feel that?" Kanu asked the others

"Rock and roll dudes, I think we have found the Round Table of the Knights right here on Long Island, now that is going to bring some tourist bucks to this place, that's for sure."

"If we don't get hung and quartered first" Wain says.

"Look at this, some writing on the wall underneath the sailing ship."

"It's a quote, I think its written in Hebrew. But I have no idea what it says."

"Hebrew! but the ships are Phonessesian galls, my father has prints of them all over our house, I recognize them" Kanu says.

"Mr. Lenz  has a library full of language dictionaries perhaps he could translate it for us" Wain says to the others." Did anyone bring something to write with?" he asked the others.

"Yes I have a pen and some paper in my back pack. I'll write it down" Ira says, "then Wain can take it to Mr. Lenz and see what he can make of it."

"The Phonessesian's galls were sailing the globe 30 to 40 thousand years ago. This could be an ancient site somehow protected from geological and environmental changes that have occurred on the earth many times since that time."

"Or it could have been placed here in our resent past for safe keeping" Kanu says.

Suddenly Arthur says: "Quiet, do you hear that?"

"Hear what?" Ira asked.

"Someone is here, quick lets, get out of here."

"Not before I take some picture's" Wain says taking his camera out of his back pack. As he snaps three pictures his camera then suddenly goes dead, rendering it useless, seems the battery had gone dead.

"I just put a new battery in this thing, that's strange."

"Come on lets get going, I don't think we should be seen in here."

The four young men leave the large room and take the tunnel back to the main shaft of the cave, then take the main tunnel out to the cave's opening. Stopping at the entrance still in the shadows of the cave they hear car doors opening and closing somewhere in front of the old abandoned mansion. They can hear a woman's voice and the voices of two men talking but can not make out what they are saying.

"You and Ira go around the right side of the house, stay in the woods out of sight and see if you can see them. Wain and I will go around the left side and check it out. Meet back here in 5 minutes, o.k."

They take off  quietly in the dark, lamps off  using only small flash lights to see their way through the dark woods. What they would see next surprised them all and sent a chill through each of them.

Three people were inside the house, talking calmly. One was in a military uniform, one looked like a politician who's picture they had seen before on TV and the third person was none other than Miss Ceridwen Downs. They were gowning up like doctors and nurses then put small breathing respirators on. Then it seemed to them that the three people just disappeared before their very eyes. After five minutes the four boys met back at the cave entrance.

"Miss Downs and the senator with some general or something, lots of braid that's all I know" Wain says.

"That is a 5 Star General, I could see the flash on his lapels from my position. But what is a 5 Star General doing with Miss Ceridwen Downs and some Washington politician out here, that's what I want to know" Ira asked.

"You don't think they know about the 'cryptid’or the room we just discovered do you Arthur?"

"I don't doubt it. I think we have stumbled on their big secret. I don't think its safe to stick around to much longer lets get out of here now. We will come back tomorrow after school and see what's up with the abandoned mansion. Could have tunnel passages running out of it. Looks like it anyway the way they just fell out of all our views."

That night around 9:00 the family Rosenkreutz was seating themselves to dinner. They lived in a large house out on the sound. It was an old estate built in the 1910's by a tin baron with his fortune. The family dinning room that night was dimmed in the two candelabras that provided the light for the table. Lights were on but dimmed. A fire burned in the fireplace.

As the three of them sat at the candle light table Blossom asked her father how the bond market was doing. Valentine Rosenkreutz and Andrea Rosenkreutz looked at their 18 year old daughter.

"Well Blossom if their was not so much selling lately to cover bad equities debt I honestly could say that I was doing quite well, but that's not the case. I prosper selling off bonds but nobody in the bond market is making money now. You have an interest in such matter's now Blossom?"

"Sure papa I am better able to understand the subject matter now- bonds, stocks, currency, gold and other precious metals- go platinum!"

" Our banks and the Western central banks have been selling their national gold reserves on the open market at an under valued price while being oversold by the boat load at a fixed 250 dollars an ounce. Oh it hits 300 dollars an ounce every blue moon but the 250 price tag is where it is pegged for mass buying by the world's governments for their own gold surpluses and jewelry markets. Since the Breton Woods agreements after the British pound collapsed in 1968 America moved off the gold standard then later on the Smithsonian agreements perpetuated this policy allowing currency valuations to be set by the free world's governments. Printing their own currency that is then traded in the world market place. Now we are seeing a flight from bonds to overvalued equities with the consumers net liquidity at an all time low. I wonder if I'm going to have to live to the age 100 before this equities market comes back to healthy again... Or Blossom,... this could be the beginning of a new way of life for us."

"You mean living to be 100 years old dad?" Smiling at her parents she says: "No I understand what you are saying father, it's called bankruptcy. Close Fort Knox, don't need that place anymore. I have lots of friends right now who's parents are 'undergoing a downsizing'. That's a 'positive phrase for a negative thing'. It's happening as we speak father. Hotair had access to the government and flexed some serious muscle with lots of donations for politicians this last election cycle. It's all over the papers now."

"Yes very funny, close Fort Knox, but not quiet as funny if it were not true. Ah Blossom that is part of the problem, huge premature bond liquidations to cover bad equity debts. The G.A.T.T. and N.A.F.T.A. treaty agreements have carried American business into the changing tides of a global business pool now. Our small business person is competing for a smaller and smaller piece of the global world economic pie against many more small business persons from around the world. Our investment dollars are pouring into China, Russia the middle East with greater returns on American dollars than they could make here in our own country. Then there is Japan who's central bank is forced to buy it's governments debt while loaning more money to already debt ridden companies while at the same time providing their banks with 0% money that the banks can't even put to work. Soon their presses will print more currency to use for buying up overdue or just bad debt. When that happens the yen will hit it's lowest valuation in 20 years all while India and China bought out our 'Knox discount gold reserves', making jewelry from it or adding to their own gold reserves. Blossom let's change the subject now. How was school? Any teachers or classes that you like this semester?"

The Rosenkreutz family ate dinner talking quietly about how nice but unseasonably cool the weather had been that week, the greenhouse orchids now in bloom and finally a young man that Blossom had met over the past few weeks named Arthur Twilight. The candle flames flashed bright as she told them of this fine young man, one she secretly thought to herself was a knight of old.

That night Arthur drove over to Elphin Taliesin's house. Elphin lived with his parents and 13 year old sister Annwn Taliesin. As he drove up to the small house he noticed that both Elphin and Annwn were waiting for his him at the front of the house. It was 10:00 and very dark out that night.

"What is it, must be pretty important to wake my parents up to get me. Are we being invaded or something?"

"Not yet but look at these pictures that Wain took tonight out at the old cypress quarry. Do you think we have something here or is this thing a fake?"

"I can't really tell from the photo's looking at them out here, come on it. We will look at them in the kitchen. Quiet or my parents will get up to see what's going on."

"Arthur so nice to see you again. How are your parents?"

"Fine Annwn, yours?"

"Doing well I'd say fewer fights and the swearing has really pretty much stopped."

"Annwn, can you stop with the 'more than we need to know' routine, pleee...ase"

"Yes professor thoughtful, can't take a moments worth of gaiety or mirthfulness, heir serious."

"That's it Annwn, quiet or leave now!"

"My lips are sealed as a lizards, I'm all eyes of a newt from here on out. Out with the photo's Arthur, or are you actually listening to this petty bantering. Need to get out more Arthur."

"Annwn, you are rude and really I hate to tell you this Annwn, you are not even very funny. So zip it or leave it."

The three of them looked at the photo's that Wain had taken and developed over at the schools black room. The photos of the criptid came out well enough to make out the features of the artifact. The green colors came out with an ire green due to the flash from the camera. Looked like it was glowing a yellow green.

"We found something else too. I think we found Arthur's Round Table."

The three children stood in the kitchen quietly thinking about what Arthur had just said.

"I have to go now Elphin but tomorrow we are going back. Annwn, don't say a word about this to anyone. Understand?"

"Yes good knight Arthur I understand fully. See you tomorrow at school good sir."

Arthur left the Taliesin's and drove home. That night laying in his bed Arthur thought that he could hear the singing he had heard so many times before. Sounded like a chorus, merry and joyous from long ago. Merry Twilight left a small candle burning on the bay window sill in the living room.

"Knowest thou what thou are
In the hour of sleep-
a mere body- a mere soul-
Or a secret retreat of the light?" (1)

The next morning Miss Ceridwen Downs seemed irritable. She paced in the front of the classroom like a hungry lioness waiting nervously for her next meal. As the bell rang Arthur thought he saw her lick her lips, though sitting in back of the classroom he could not be sure.

"Open your text books to page 1 the Introduction, anyone read this last night?" a few hands go up. "Good anyone like to share with the rest of the class what they might have learned from the reading it."

For some inexplicable reason not a single hand went up. Arthur and Wain gentleman that they are did not look at each other or smile however benignly they could have done so with the current wave of non interest in the subject or for that matter the bearer of the subject matter material. Miss Ceridwen Downs was a witch of a teacher, a cold nervous old veteran out to spoil all the fun, she was as a dirge for education, a terror to the imagination and death to any enthusiasm for academics. Arthur smiled as he thought about Miss Blossom Rosenkreutz. Miss Downs was talking but he could not hear her. She was pointing to a sailing vessel:

"Galls, these are the ancient Galls, they are not called ships, boats, but Galls." Arthur recognized the Galls as what he had seen on the walls in the quarry. Wain had the same thought and as they turned to look at each other ... Miss Ceridwen Downs was looking right at them. She knew they knew and in a cold flash they became very scared. It was as if a cell or stone was laid atop a burning fire, they felt all the air being sucked out of the class room. It suddenly became very suffocating in her classroom.

"These are the sailing craft called Galls the Phoenicians built to sail the oceans of the world. O.K. lets go to ancient India now page 3 anyone want to read page 3. Again not a single hand, Miss Ceridwen Down's expression became that of a teacher scorned, it was not a warm face, rather it terrified her students as they realized she knew that not a single one of them cared about her class or the subject matter. It was a cold situation, yes it was.

"Arthur Gawain you must remember. Camelot, the Round Table, Gwenavere, remember now!" It was Merlin standing before them now. "Remember to ask the question. Ask the question good King Arthur."

"It this the shadow of death we are feeling now?" "Yes Arthur it is."

"The caves and stone cells lost in the labyrinths of time are now opened?"

"Yes Arthur remember you were imprisoned three times, fought 12 battles victorious in all, then you.."

"I meet the Wen Bendragon, the lady of the stone of Echemeint".

"Yes the lady of the source of generation".

"The small flat stone that covered the 'cell of Ceridwen', I about died in that covered hole. If it had not been for the fresh running springs and the cleansing that came with drinking that water I would have passed to the pastures beyond."

"Yes Arthur you were purified with that water and then you became acquainted with the 'divine origin of the soul within' that was born out of the spiritual worlds, to then die in the physical world of all desires to return once again to the womb of the World Soul."(1)

"Ask the question King Arthur and you will be released." Merlin faded from their view as the class bell rang. They gathered up their books and bags and walked out of the class to meet up with Elphin and Annwn Taliesin walking down the hall to their next classes.

"I don't have much time to talk now so we will see you at the blackstone - lunch, got to go now." Arthur said this to them as he and Wain walked to their U.S.History class with Mr. Ben Baldur. They looked forward to a change in venue, though Merlin's visit made up for the otherwise oppressive classroom atmospherics that were developing in there at the time of his appearance. A change was appreciated nevertheless.

As the bell rang for the class to begin Mr. Ben Baldur asked the class: "ok where are we with our reading?"

"Go Will."

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

In order to gain a clear and just idea of the design and end of government, let us suppose a small number of persons settled in some sequestered part of the earth, unconnected with the rest, they will then represent the first peopling of any country, or of the world. In this state of natural liberty, society will be their first thought. A thousand motives will excite them thereto, the strength of one man is so unequal to his wants, and his mind so unfitted for perpetual solitude, that he is soon obliged to seek assistance and relief of another, who in his turn requires the same. Four or five united would be able to raise a tolerable dwelling in the midst of a wilderness, but one man might labor out the common period of life without accomplishing any thing; when he had felled his timber he could not remove it, nor erect it after it was removed; hunger in the mean time would urge him from his work, and every different want call him a different way. Disease, nay even misfortune would be death, for though neither might be mortal, yet either would disable him from living, and reduce him to a state in which he might rather be said to perish than to die.

Will sits down, the hands fly for the next chance to read from Thomas Paines "Common Sense" and all was good in the world of academics in America this morning once again, and going now into the early afternoon. It felt good to be in the classroom, everybody conscious was jazzed to be there. It felt safe.

"Go June."

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

Thus necessity, like a gravitating power, would soon form our newly arrived emigrants into society, the reciprocal blessings of which, would supersede, and render the obligations of law and government unnecessary while they remained perfectly just to each other; but as nothing but heaven is impregnable to vice, it will unavoidably happen, that in proportion as they surmount the first difficulties of emigration, which bound them together in a common cause, they will begin to relax in their duty and attachment to each other; and this remissness, will point out the necessity, of establishing some form of government to supply the defect of moral virtue.

June smiles at the teacher when she has finished her paragraph and asks if she can read the next one as she liked what Paine said so much.

"One more paragraph please Mr. Baldur, I am a two paragraph kind of person you know!"

"Sure go June."

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

Some convenient tree will afford them a State-House, under the branches of which, the whole colony may assemble to deliberate on public matters. It is more than probable that their first laws will have the title only of REGULATIONS, and be enforced by no other penalty than public disesteem. In this first parliament every man, by natural right will have a seat.

June looks up and says: "that one did not count" and continues reading, Mr. Baldur smiles wide and looks at the rest of the class as June ripes ahead reading every word as though she had just written it her self just yesterday.

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

But as the colony increases, the public concerns will increase likewise, and the distance at which the members may be separated, will render it too inconvenient for all of them to meet on every occasion as at first, when their number was small, their habitations near, and the public concerns few and trifling. This will point out the convenience of their consenting to leave the legislative part to be managed by a select number chosen from the whole body, who are supposed to have the same concerns at stake which those have who appointed them, and who will act in the same manner as the whole body would act were they present. If the colony continue increasing, it will become necessary to augment the number of the representatives, and that the interest of every part of the colony may be attended to, it will be found best to divide the whole into convenient parts, each part sending its proper number; and that the elected might never form to themselves an interest separate from the electors, prudence will point out the propriety of having elections often; because as the elected might by that means return and mix again with the general body of the electors in a few months, their fidelity to the public will be secured by the prudent reflection of not making a rod for themselves. And as this frequent interchange will establish a common interest with every part of the community, they will mutually and naturally support each other, and on this (not on the unmeaning name of king) depends the strength of government, and the happiness of the governed.

June then sits down and Mr. Baldur asked the class a question.

"You understand the tenor of this piece I'm sure now. He is doing what here?"

"He is pre-revolutionary, a Brit, settled in America, calling the people of the colonies to throw off the yoke of the King of England, what was his name? can't remember. Then it offers ideas as to how to run this democratic republic that he proposes. "

"That is correct Thomas Paine was the editor of the Pennsylvania Magazine in Philadelphia. He wrote for Independence and used his pen against British rule. Got that so far? Now it turns out he supported armed war against Britain and King James for independence. The 13 colonies needed to be unified in purpose to succeed and he used his talents to those ends, to forge a nation."

"O.K. who's up?"

"Blossom!"Go."

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

Here then is the origin and rise of government; namely, a mode rendered necessary by the inability of moral virtue to govern the world; here too is the design and end of government, viz. freedom and security. And however our eyes may be dazzled with snow, or our ears deceived by sound; however prejudice may warp our wills, or interest darken our understanding, the simple voice of nature and of reason will say, it is right.

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

I draw my idea of the form of government from a principle in nature, which no art can overturn, viz. that the more simple any thing is, the less liable it is to be disordered, and the easier repaired when disordered; and with this maxim in view, I offer a few remarks on the so much boasted constitution of England. That it was noble for the dark and slavish times in which it was erected is granted. When the world was overrun with tyranny the least therefrom was a glorious rescue. But that it is imperfect, subject to convulsions, and incapable of producing what it seems to promise, is easily demonstrated.

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

Absolute governments (tho' the disgrace of human nature) have this advantage with them, that they are simple; if the people suffer, they know the head from which their suffering springs, know likewise the remedy, and are not bewildered by a variety of causes and cures. But the constitution of England is so exceedingly complex, that the nation may suffer for years together without being able to discover in which part the fault lies, some will say in one and some in another, and every political physician will advise a different medicine.

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

I know it is difficult to get over local or long standing prejudices, yet if we will suffer ourselves to examine the component parts of the English constitution, we shall find them to be the base remains of two ancient tyrannies, compounded with some new republican materials.

First. The remains of monarchical tyranny in the person of the king.

Secondly. The remains of aristocratically tyranny in the persons of the peers.

Thirdly. The new republican materials, in the persons of the commons, on whose virtue depends the freedom of England.

"Good afternoon class, have a great rest of your days... So see you Friday remember: 'better said is better bred' speak well, live well."

end Thomas Paines 'Common Sense' reading.

He smiled at them broadly and waved to them as they left his class. He loved teaching, he was born to teach and he thanked the good God that he got to do it and reach his students. It made everything else all right, as the world did have some innate reason to it, evidenced by the thrill of learning still found in the youth of a nation inside his classroom.

The class bell rang. The students were a little tired, seemed they had just used their brains for something besides doing what they were told to do. It felt good, like they had actually been thinking.

The black stone was buzzing like a hive of honey bees. The 24 places were occupied by 12:00 noon with 35 or more students standing around the table flowing well out into the neighboring tables there in the far corners of the cafeteria. It's location in the cafeteria made it a perfect meeting spot for all the tribes. It's made of black marble with streaks of gold mica running through it. It was one of many large tables found in the cafe but it was the largest black, round table in the entire cafeteria.

"Look at these picture's Blossom, Wain took them out at the quarry. We are going there this evening do you want to come along and see it with us?"

"Sure Arthur sounds great!"

The crowd around the black stone was all excited about something. Arthur could hear the excitement and raised his hand. The table became quiet. Off in the far distances of the cafeteria he saw Miss Ceridwen Downs with a visitor to the school. The 35 or so around the table now became quiet all looking across the dinning hall at the guests. He was wearing a suit and appeared to be smiling, shaking some hands and paying attention to what the others were saying to him as they walked across the cafeteria towards them.

Later that afternoon at Big Band and Chorus class Mr. Tones Jones asked for lyrics and music for the class musical. Jonathan Edwards looking every bit the part of that Connecticut churchman (1703 -1756) with his Dutch boy hair and Pennsylvania Dutch black felt hat stood up and said he had compiled the lyrics from the orchestra's writer's for both a 1st and 2nd acts.

"We have some music for it too, rough as it is. Here goes,..."looking at the band he asked, "ready 1,2,3,4," the band was off as the chorus sang the following lyrics..

The band and chorus came to the end of the work and became silent. Mr. Jones looked at them and said:

"I think we have a monster here. Now lets refine this many sided jewel. Up for it?"

Pandemonium breaks out in the shoe box orchestra hall as mandolins, voices, percussion instruments, bells, tambourines, a wash tub or two, instruments not yet defined in music literature explode in waves of unrestrained excitement and fun.

"Let's go. 1,2,3,4, keeping time with a baton in his right hand and with his out stretched left hand gesturing in a circular motion about chest high but sometimes dropping lower.

"Music, bass, chorus, percussion, mandolins, good, voices up, good, horns soft, down...bring it up now 1,2,3,4. We are cooking now," walking over to the sound system putting on the 3rd movement of the Vivaldi Concerto in C for Mandolin as he had done for them their last class. day before.

Jasmine, Niki, start singing along with Jonathan Edwards, Luna playing the mandolin along with Blossom and Annwy while Kevin on guitar and Vickey with the percussion section along with the entire chorus begin to sing the work from the top:

Give us the truth then bravely we will be as sparks of gladness peaking!
Like those gray dusty doves flight into the evenings twilight yawning dusk,
souls lift in healing delight into sleepy cloud towers seeing lights dawning.

"Knowest thou what thou are
In the hour of sleep-
a mere body- a mere soul-
Or a secret retreat of the light?" (1)

Mr. Tones Jones smiled as he kept time to the beautiful voices weaving with the strings, brass and percussion sections. It moved nicely from a C sharp 4- 4 tempo to a 2-4 time tempo in C and had a medieval feel about it.

That Evening

That evening at the Twilight home Arthur was enjoying his mother's corn beef and cabbage meal. It was quiet at the table as Arthur is thinking about meeting up with his posse of knights and maidens around 7. His mother had the 3 candelabra candles lit and was quietly enjoying her meal.

Abe Twilight finally spoke to his wife saying:

"I knew I could not keep this from you Merry but I think Arthur and Wain found something out at the quarry."

Arthur just looked at his dad and said: "thanks loose lips, remind me not to trust you with keeping any secrets from mom, you don't have the heart for it."

"Look she would never forgive me if this thing turns out to be some rare artifact that she could have made a difference with."

"O.K. dad you failed the test, on wards with mom now wanting to do a survey of the area with other museum scientists. Great this is all we need right now."

"Arthur I am not going to bring the world into this discovery, quite the opposite, I'm going to try to keep it as low keyed as possible. That way the museum can get it safely protected before the public arrives at the site."

The candles burned brightly at the Twilight table that dinner time bounding out of their shapes as if trying to go somewhere in a most impatient manner.

"We are meeting at 7, bring your breathing respirators and head lamps, its pretty dank with some gaseous residues visible and lurking on the floors of the cave system. We will meeting Wain and Ira out there tonight. They are on to us dad do you think you could provide us with some heat tonight for our protection?"

"Sure son, who do you think is on to you guys?"

"A teacher from our school, a Miss Ceridwen Downs, my Western Civilization class teacher, a real witch if you ask me, then their is some political bureaucratic looking guy, and finally a serious 5 Star General from our own armed services."

"The teacher knows these people?" "Do you think she knows that you specifically know about this apparently very significant find."

"I do dad but there is more to this find than I have had the time to tell you about. We found a large room deeper inside the tunnel system. An opening in the main tunnel wall allowed us access to a slopping graded path leading into a large room. It has large wall paintings of Phoenician Galls their sailing vessels. You know what I'm talking about."

The Twilight's are now in an excited and animated discussion about the paintings and the white stone round table too. The candles again were burning in a most impatient manner. That night they rode in Arthur's Datsun out to cypress rock quarry. Wain and Ira arrived a few minutes later.

"We have to be very careful because their is something going on here that could, well get us in a lot of hot water. So one of us has to be a watchman. Ira you willing to be a watchman while we go in?"

"If that's what you need good knight I will do it Arthur."

"Good, we will use the two way radio's, don't talk just beat the bongos Wain brought our here tonight to communicate with us. Slow beat's all is clear, fast beat's someone is here, slow to fast time to get back to base camp. Got it? No talking don't know who could be monitoring the air waves around here and these radio's are very easy to drop in on, so just use the bongos to communicate with us."

"No problem, slow is go, fast someone is here, slow to fast time to get back here."

Arthur left with the others marking a trail as they went to the cave with pieces of tin, cans and reflectors. They put their breathing respirators on and Arthur led them down the tunnel. When they arrived at the 'criptid' which Arthur and Wain had discovered earlier in the week they stopped. The 4 of them gathered around the artifact and marveled at it's beauty, it's other worldly color and the incredible skeletal formations seen in its fins or possibly hands with the joints of its fingers with the same skeletal digits found in the what seemed to be it's feet and toes.

"It is absolutely exquisite. The world will love seeing something like this" Merry Twilight says to the other three. "This is an artifact my good son Arthur, you wanted me to tell you that if I ever saw one. Well what you have found here is in fact an artifact...You did what few people will ever do Arthur you found a link with our past history on this planet. Congratulations!"

Abe Twilight is quietly listening to sounds that are coming from outside the cave. He looks at Arthur who catches his gaze and says quickly to the others: "we should get going now." They head on quickly again with Arthur leading them down the dark tunnel. Their head lamps help to illumine the bats flying about and the very small mice that are running along the floor of the tunnel. Soon they are at the opening to the shaft that trails down into the large room with the white round table and wall paintings.

They take hold of each others hands and go into the opening taking the path into the large room a 100 yards or so down this slopping path. Smooth as a fine oiled machine they quickly entered the hall. Their lamps light up the room so well that they discovered even more artifacts. The Phoenician Galls covered the walls. On the floor were gold coins, metal drinking flasks, and broken pottery. They all were spell bound by the beauty of the wall paintings and the objects.

Merry Twilight picks up a small silver ornament of a drum. She holds it up to the other's and says: "look at this, a drum, a silver drum. How very beautiful. Artifacts are property of the state but often they do end up for some reason never being seen by the public. Rather ending up in storage somewhere never to see the light of day."

"We are here to document, experience, but not to remove anything mom." Arthur says this even toned while smiling at his father. She smiles at him, "I know Arthur."

Arthur continues, "Look at this stone, this great white stone. This is an ancient stone possibly thousands of years old. Look at the carvings in it, the images of humans, animals, the stars and planets."

They begin to brush of the stone with some small hand brooms they have brought with them for specifically this purpose. As they swept the stone they began to notice features on it that they had not seen before. They noticeably gasped marveling at what they were uncovering. Together they were making the greatest archeological find of the 21 century. They were uncovering King Arthur's Round Table and the stars in the heavens were opening as well. They were about to turn the key to humanities future, the once and future times were about to tumble out along the way back again to the once and future times..

"Look Arthur the stone is beginning to move." Wain and the others slowly walked across the marked sections etched in the circular stone. As they walked to the middle of the stone the four of them held hands as the stone begins to rise up ever so slowly at first. Then first with small bumps it began to pick up speed and before they knew it they were in for a very fast ride. It was similar to a ride at an amusement park where the cylinder spins so fast that the floor seems to drop right out from under you  and suddenly you seem to be floating supine in this fast rolling cylinder. They turns their heads slowly and looked at each other, no one said a word. Then Merry Twilight turned to Arthur and said:

"Make the declaration Arthur, state in now."

Arthur without a second's hesitation calls out, "If  we uncover the cell of Ceridwen we can protect the golden egg."

Arthur knew he was going to have to face Miss Ceridwen Downs very soon. The Knights of the Round Table would help him defeat the evil enchantress of the dragon and her plans for keeping the white round stone a secret from humanity. Then like in an invisible egg there she was standing in front of him. She appeared to be wrapped in this translucent egg while fading in and out of Arthur's vision.

He was petrified stiff. Felt like he died and was only a shadow of himself. As out of a trance Arthur saw the astral light clear around him. He saw his mother Merry and his father Abe both smiling at him, they spoke to him but he could not hear them. He smiled at them then Ceridwen grabbed his attention immediately taking him into a dive that could only be described as terrifying. The howling winds were so loud that his ears began to hurt. She smiled at him and looked into his eyes. Her eyes were green, very clear green with hyacinth blue eyelids and her hair was now a very jet black like that of a raven. Suddenly he was captured in the 'shadow of death' (1) a great fear griped Arthur. His body now felt like a prison, his spirit gasping for freedom.

"The flat stone of Echemeint covers the cell of Ceridwen and death. You would uncover my cell of death Arthur?"

"Yes Ceridwen this "dark cell with no light"(1) of yours is a prison of the dying wandering through it. Those who get this sojourn through death done here end up having "a basket of numbers and parts from the Divine Powers" and protect the golden egg of self knowledge." (1)

A voice broke through the vision. "Arthur ask her the question" it was Merry Twilight again.

"Ask her about the stone".

"Are we 'a living stone in the holy structure of the world'?' Arthur asked. (1)

"Yes!" she screamed, now in great pain. She looked Arthur right in his eyes and said,

"May the seasons, and all geography of the earth fall upon you good Knight Arthur for revealing the secrets of the ancient ones. Humanity is to be kept enslaved to the earth and not to know about this light within, your golden eggs of self knowledge."

"Your way is in decadence Ceridwen and has been passed over. Now a little lamp of Christ can lead those who wish to follow it out of your dark cell."

"Never Arthur we are immortals in service of the dragon Draco!" As she said this she was now writhing in disgust and looked to Arthur like a reptile now as Arthur was speaking. She looked into Arthur's eyes one last time and said angrily:

"You and your little lamp are as nothing to the hate, evil and darkness that we have perpetuated on this planet. What makes you young knight think your could fight us, we are the rulers of your 3 dimensional world and have ruled over your kind for a long time. May all his angels fall from the sky."

Ceridwen then disappeared from Arthur's sight as he regained his attention to the others standing with him on the white stone. All faces were turned to Arthur now. Then Wain says to Arthur holding up the radio: "I heard Ira playing the bongos slowly now I think we better go."  The others could hear the beat of bongos playing over the small two way radio.

"Yes I hear them" Abe Twilight says.

"Yes it's time to go." As he said this the large round cream colored stone began to drop back to floor level and only then did they all realize that it had rose several inches off the surface of the ground. They stepped off the stone and headed up the path towards the main tunnel shaft. As they walked they heard Ira's bongos tapping softly talking to them with a slow to fast beat now communicating that they should come back to base camp.

As they got back to the main tunnel and gathered there for a head count they noticed that the criptid in the main shaft was glowing again, but this time it looked like it was glowing in a waste material color and in fact in process of dying a slow death. As they all observed the artifact from a distance it seemed to glow faint then dim 'in synch' with their own thought patterns.

"Arthur wait a minute. Lets all right now send the artifact, call it 'green fish' yes, send all of us good thought to 'green fish' and observe any response from him, it , 'green fish' might send back to us."

"Agreed Wain lets try but time is of the essence now and we must be getting out of here quickly.

"O.K. here goes, I'm sending 'green fish' unconditional love, like to our pets, parents or parties.. whatever, you get the vibe, right? send it the love vibe." As they got in step and sent the projecting thoughts of love to the artifact, to all their amazement, even Arthur's, it immediately turned to a soft chartreuse in color, a soft green, yellow, so intelligently and tastefully that it began to amaze them. The air seemed to become thicker in the tunnel.

Through her gas mask Merry Twilight said: "Will you look at that, pretty as a cuddle fish, look at all those colors of chartreuse, did not even know those colors existed really." Together they just stared at the overwhelming beauty of the thing they had come to call the 'green fish'.

"Green fish" is responding apparently to our attention as evidenced by it's color pallet."

"Yes Arthur it feels our love but Ira is still beating the bongos and the beat is picking up again, I think we better be moving out." Wain said this emphatically and just then the artifacts color changed to a dark green and then the glow disappeared.

"I think we better get the hell out of here now!" Abe said. Arthur turned to the others: "we are going to walk quickly to the tunnel entrance, paying due respect to 'green fish' on the way out, once at the entrance take your masks off, and prepare to hike back to base camp. Do not linger at the tunnel entrance. Once you get there, see if anyone is out there first then get going to base camp one after the other. Got it?" The others nodded, no questions were asked. Then he said to them, "Do you hear the drums now?" They all smiled shaking their heads as Ira quietly played bongos that they heard beating through Wain's two way radio calling them home.

"Yes we hear them Arthur, like Camelot calling us home." Wain said this with a big smile on his face and then started down the tunnel as the others began to follow him. Arthur was beside him running towards the caves entrance. When they arrived at 'green fish' they stopped in their tracks.

"A prayer with the old 'green fish' here Arthur.

"A quick prayer Wain, we must be gone quickly."

"God speed old fish!" the two knights laugh aloud continuing now to run down the tunnel. When they arrive at the entrance they take their masks off and look out on the dark. They see no one as Merry and Abe Twilight catch up to them. Wain leaves the cave first, close behind is Merry Twilight both following the well marked trail.

As the two men were leaving the cave Arthur noticed that the marker rock set outside the cave was now glowing a blood red, as though it was hot and in need of being released. He pointed this out to his father as he ran over to the flat white rock. It was glowing a soft red color and steam was coming out from around it's circumference for the entire 360 degrees of the stone.

Arthur heard the words,  "ssk the question Arthur, ask the question." Turning to his father he said, 'What"?

"I said I wonder what the hell that is there. A glowing white rock, that is now red!"

"It's that flipping witch Ceridwen and this is the flat stone of Echemeint that covers the cell of her dark world. This is a blow hole on the planet dad. Anyway, that is what Ceridwen is so angry about. That I might find this stone, the stone that covers and seals her world from our present time. The woman is a witch who morphs into a reptile when she gets angry. Her time has come I'm afraid and I am the one destined to defeat her."

"Arthur, the others are waiting for us, we should go now." Abe Twilight looks around nervously as the stone glows soft red with smoke continuing to rise around it's edges.

"Let's go Arthur," he pulls his son away from the glowing stone that Arthur now seems entranced by. His father pulled Arthur up, getting his attention again, then together they used their small pocket flashlights to see their way back to camp. Once there and all were accounted for, they returned to their cars and leaving the quarry they all met back at the Twilight's that same night.

"I'm glad you guys are o.k. we had one car pull up and do a drive through just after you guys left. They were in a black Chrysler, nothing anyone would be caught driving unless you worked for the government. So they drove around the mansion and then left. No one got out of the car and they did not come back. Then about an hour later a stretch limo pulls up in back of the mansion no one would have even known anyone was even there. Three people got out, that's when the bongos got on line with your radio Wain with the slow to quick beat, you picked it up real good."

"We heard it right away, as we were standing on the big white round table stone."

"Talking bongos" Ira said.

'Talking Bongos', that works, really, it does." Wain says to Ira as he is smiling at the others.

Merry lit some candles around the house and enjoyed their company that night. Blossom Rosenkreutz arrived to hear about there adventure and sat visiting with Merry Twilight for an hour. She realized that Arthur Twilight was something very special and hoped that her getting to know him better would only serve him well. She could see the love his parents held for Arthur and did not want to bring him any harm.

As they talked about her parents and what her father did for a living Merry noticed that the candles were dimming now, the hour was getting late, 11:15 or so and she just figured the youngsters were just getting tired. Full day of school along with the evenings adventure she figured their energy level was just beginning to wain. She was wrong.

Suddenly every candle in the house was blown out. Everyone was speechless. Then Arthur spoke saying "it's that witch Ceridwen. She followed us here, I can feel her presence. Repeat these words with me everyone."

"In the name of Christ be gone, In the name of Christ be gone!"

He called the words out loud, and then repeated them a third time. The entire house went into a chilling  freeze that they could all feel. Then a smell none of them had ever experienced before began filling the house."

"Quick get out of here, now" Arthur yelled. They all ran out of the house onto the front porch then looking back into the house they saw the gas slowly begin to settle down to the floor. After a few minutes Abe and Arthur ventured back into the house and opened all the doors and windows, then returned to join the others on the front porch.

Abe turned to Arthur and said: "Be gone in the name of Christ, be gone.. Not bad for an 18 year old Arthur, not bad at all. Ever think of becoming a cop, you could put the fear of god into a lot of bad guys out there you know."

"Thanks dad, I think they would have to believe in God first before they would be afraid of God. Anyway I like the freelance aspect to my work better than yours."

"Just think about it, that's all I ask."

"Sure dad while I'm kicking some serious butt I can be taking names and numbers, the ladies that is, you understand I'm sure." The two hug each other, Merry and Abe excuse themselves from the others as the night is growing late and return to the house.

"Arthur I will see you at school tomorrow. To bed before mid-night or the angels won't be able to help you on the astral plane good knight. Or does Christ have an answer to that as well?"

"No Blossom you are right. To effectively work on you, they do need that commitment. So it is my bed time or the 'witching hour' will take those angelic visits away from me."

"How clever you are Arthur, beyond your years." Blossom said this in hearing distance of his parents. The Twilights said their good nights to the others now leaving for their own homes. Blossom said one last thing before she left. As the Twilight's walked back into their house her voice could be heard calling to Arthur as they walked to their cars.

"See you tonight good man."

"In our dreams fair lady, in our dreams." Arthur called back as he stepped inside his home.

"Yes Arthur in our dreams." It was snowing lightly now.

As they drive away that night, Merry Twilight lights a candle and sets it on the window sill in the living room then retires to their bedrooms for the night. A snow devil is seen swirling angrily about finding refuge finally in a dumpster behind the cigar shop. As the light September snow falls, a chorus is heard singing,

"Knowest thou what thou are
In the hour of sleep-
a mere body- a mere soul-
Or a secret retreat of the light?" (1)

The Next Morning

Getting up for breakfast Wain Wright joins his Fireman dad and his housewife mother who is preparing breakfast for her men as she has done for the last 20 years. She loved her family and no amount of liberation was ever going to replace the love she carried in her heart for Cain her husband and their only son Wain Wright. Ann Wright was the luckiest woman in the world and she knew it.

"Morning son, any early news on the school front we need to know about?"

"No dad it still sucks and it has not burned down yet. No, no, that's not what you want to hear, I know, I know. Fact is I know of nothing that I have to alert you to, like fund raisers, parent meetings... would you like me to go on dad?"

"Very good son, very good. Now on to bigger and better things, where were you last night. Got in late, 11:45 or so. No phone call, what's up?"

Wain was waiting for this moment to arrive. He took out some photo's and put them in front of his dad. His father stared at them for a couple of minutes passing them all along to his wife Ann as he finished looking at them.

"This is here, around us here on Long Island?"

"Close as close."

"The papers on to it yet?"

"No way."

"These the only pictures and where did you get them developed?"

"I have the negatives and I developed them myself over at school. We have our own black room for photography classes. I was there a couple of nights ago, I do janitor work over there in trade for use of the facilities, works out nice. Same kind of agreement I have with Mr. Lenz the stone cutter."

Ann says: "You better be careful Wain, that old Welshman Abe Twilight will let that boy of his go pretty far down the road before he calls him back. You don't want to be bringing any shame upon this family of ours do to some wild and crazy idea of that good, but bold boy, Arthur Twilight do you Wain? Do you understand Wain  how important it is to us that you grow up right and true and by this dint of character be set out of harms way?"

"Momma, momma, you worry to much! These are fine people and they are like family to me. We have known them forever. They are not going to let me get hurt, or for that matter Arthur either. Look, if anything gets crazy with the agencies heat we will just back off and fade into the background. Trust me mom, I don't like 8 x 8's better than anyone else. So please, don't worry so much."

They finished their breakfast talking about his night- last. As the parents listened to his tale of adventure with nothing left out, they both wondered if in fact their boy was just overly imaginative or in fact having these paranormal experiences he was now telling them about. Cain looked at Ann several times as Wain was speaking about the discovered 'white stone' round table. Cain Wright closed his eyes as he looked at Ann shaking his head, he then opened his eyes looking right into her eyes and she would respond doing the same gestures back to him. Wain finally stopped talking and concentrated now on his meal that he had barely touched.

"Wain do us a favor, keep this to yourself, ok. Forget the teachers, they won't believe you, ok. And friends, remember they talk a lot. You know that little Elphin and his sister Annwn, if they hear about this, well then their parents will find out about it and then well.. everybody will think you are crazy as a loon. So please, lets be real careful with this one o.k. What do you say Wain, we got a deal on this?"

"We got a done deal folks! Got to go now, love you both. See ya." He had hardly touched his breakfast.

Excusing himself from the table, he runs up stairs to brush his teeth and comb his hair one more time. Wain then leaves the house by the kitchen back door. Running around the block he meets Arthur who is just getting into his '64 Datsun to drive to school that cool fall morning.

"Talking bongos' now that is something else good knight Arthur. Those two way radios worked perfect last night. Ira got it down perfect."

"Talking bongos' yes right Wain. I can hear them now at the black stone, our arrival is expected shortly good knight Wain."

"Onwards good knight, onwards and upwards!"

The two friends laugh as they ride along in the noisy, black coup that is barely big enough to hold four people, two in the front, two in the backseat. It was so loud inside the metal box car that they could not really carry on a conversation. The two old friends did not mind it really as the radio was always playing louder than any conversations. Techno-Christian-rock blasted so loud you could not even hear the cars loud engine now. The artist Links Brewsster rocked the joint with his funky techno-Christian rock sounds. So loud and different that not even the ministers and priests who had not heard of him or his music up to this time where now forced to listen to it as it came blasting from speakers along the tree lined streets and avenues and the byways where the youth of the lands were found.

"Talking bongos' Arthur, the music is speaking to the people once again, praise God. I think we found the Round Table of the Knights of King Arthur." The two good knights laugh as the music blasts so loud it shakes the old and original speakers.

"Good vibrations" Wain screams pointing to the twitching speakers, they both laugh out loud.

This morning it is unusually busy at the black stone. All 24 four seats are taken at the  table. The surrounding crowd around the table is 50 strong. The talk was out, Arthur's Round Table had been discovered by the fair knights. Their talk was of dangers lurking just out of sight yet very real. They all were as a glue, an amorphous life form that pulsed in synch, together, over nothing in particular at the moment but ready to congeal as one at a moments notice.

"Professor, hey professor, " it was Annwn calling her brother. She was sitting next to him at the black stone table. "Hey professor, hey..." Elphin was talking to someone else and ignored his little sister.

"Alright ass hole be like that, I will never deliver a message from a girl to you again in my life." Annwn said this is in complete distain for her older brother who spent much more time in reflection than he had ever or would ever spend showing any affection for her. But like a bottle on the waves he heard her words like a roam, 'a message from a girl'.

"What message, ass hole" he said turning to Annwyn.

"That clown in your drama class, what's her name, funny Irish gal, O'Really or something like that."

"You mean that Mead gal, the green eyed gal, the Mead gal, Megan Mead you say has a message for me? Oh wow, this could be it."

"Be what? you joining the rowing team now captain, a cocks man no doubt. Guys, you are all the same, why do we even bother with you hard heads. Anyway Meg Mead wants you to meet her at lunch time here at the black stone, she has something for you."

Annwn turned and walked away from Elphin without saying a word in parting. She did not really like being a 'go between' for any guys but especially her older brother Elphin Taliesin. It seemed it never ended well for the girls she fixed him up with. The delivered messages they begged her to deliver to her brother usually ended up in heart ache for the girls. She just did not like being the one who brought these girls to the pool of wonder, her brother, to see it become only a pool of sadness for them.

'Guys... guys, good God - guys!' she kept repeating this to herself as she walked into her l st period class. American Literature with Mrs. Drieser was probably her favorite class that semester. She liked her teacher Mrs. Theo Drieser and was excited about the reading list for the class this semester. She quickly forgot about her brother, his ways, as the class got to work reading aloud from John Steinbeck's 'Grapes of Wrath'. It was the first book they would be reading this semester. The classroom was peaceful as the students together thought about the words they were hearing read to them by  fellow classmates. Mrs. Theo Drieser's classroom was like a capsule set free in space, unencumbered by all worldly distractions and concerns. She had over the years succeeded in creating an atmosphere for learning within the four walls of her classroom that were now legend at Chardin High.

That morning Arthur and Wain went to their World Civilization class with Miss Ceridwen Downs. As they walked into the classroom the teacher standing in front stared at them coldly as they entered.

Arthur could clearly hear the teacher ask him once again "The flat stone of Echemeint covers the cell of Ceridwen and death. You would un cover my cell of death Arthur?"

His courage now summoned he replied to her with the same words and thoughts he had spoken to her last night.

"Yes Ceridwen this "dark cell with no light"(1) is a prison of the dying wandering through it. Those who get this sojourn done have a basket of numbers and parts from the Divine Powers". (1) "We are free then and no longer subject to your old and life taking ways."

"You fool Arthur, that dark cell with no light is our prison for your kind, all of you are dying as you wander through it. You are not souls, you are dying prisons for our use only. We control you with our mechanical devices and manipulate you beyond your comprehension. It has been so for a very long time."

"No Miss Downs what we are and you hate it, is 'a living stone in the holy structure of the world'?'(1) Our discovery of the artifacts put a knot in your evil plans to keep this knowledge from humanity thus keeping the human being in the dark about it's divine heritage and your..."

As the bell rang for the class to start Miss Ceridwen Downs could hardly concentrate on the class material. Seems she had a bad nights sleep or was visibly shaken by this bold and brave young man or both. Arthur and Wain noticed that her face was taking on the distinct reptilian features that Arthur noticed the night before. Her hyacinth blue eyeliner seemed to heighten the appearance. The chorus refrain could be heard as Miss Ceridwen Downs begins to instruct her class this morning.

So in conscious sleep dream of health, our well being restored,
recover from soul's foes dullness and ignorance, fleeing, floored.
Angels take flight in moving streams, rising mists and rolling clouds,
their mighty signature seen in the lightning bright with all their scrolling.

out to the moon from within and glowing like the stars so bright.

"Knowest thou what thou are
In the hour of sleep-
a mere body- a mere soul-
Or a secret retreat of the light?" (1)

As the class droned on the boys were somewhere else, then before they knew it the class bell rang and the class was over.

"I don't think the lady likes us good knight Arthur, what do you think?"

"I think she would have us bobbing for apples from her boiling dry ice cauldron at the Christmas Fair good knight Wain." The two young men laugh as they go to their next class, U.S.History with Mr. Ben Baldur.

In our lives joyful as sad events run like rose colored threads yet
songs and poems rising as gardens sweet scents spreads ascending.
Our good Creator's happiness a place so fair meets us descending
not of our merits but good grace of the spirits, given for all to share.

Hello fine men and women of these United States of America our representative Democratic Republic. I hope the day finds you positive and ready to tackle the days academics ahead for all of you. Are we ready to get right into our reading from Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'? Any questions so far? Alright then lets get this work rolling." The students raised their hands to read and the class was off and running. Wain reads the first paragraph followed then by Ira,  Jasmine and followed by Kuna. Many students after them would take their turns reading, most finding the text interesting and insightful as to the founding of the great nation, the United States of America after breaking away from England.

"Remember the last section we read on Wednesday were the following three points" which he read aloud to the class.

Thomas Paine's 'Common Sense'

"First. The remains of monarchical tyranny in the person of the king.

Secondly. The remains of aristocratically tyranny in the persons of the peers.

Thirdly. The new republican materials, in the persons of the commons, on whose virtue depends the freedom of England."

He then asked Wain to continue with the reading from the 1776 text. As they were short paragraphs he read threw the next 5 paragraphs. Mr. Baldur raised his hand and said, "your enthusiasm is much appreciated Mr. Wright but let us hear from someone else now." The students laughed as Wain took his seat letting someone else continue with the reading.

Ira reads the next paragraph and so it went, smooth as a Swiss watch on a warm spring day, each student truly interested in the revolutionary words they were hearing for the first time in their lives. Jasmine reads next.

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

The two first, by being hereditary, are independent of the people; wherefore in a constitutional sense they contribute nothing towards the freedom of the state.

To say that the constitution of England is a union of three powers reciprocally checking each other, is farcical, either the words have no meaning, or they are flat contradictions.

To say that the commons is a check upon the king, presupposes two things.

Then Kuna read his paragraph and sat down. Many hands were raised as Mr. Ben Baldur called out one by one for the next student to read.

Thomas Paine's 'Common Sense'

First. That the king is not to be trusted without being looked after, or in other words, that a thirst for absolute power is the natural disease of monarchy.

Secondly. That the commons, by being appointed for that purpose, are either wiser or more worthy of confidence than the crown.

But as the same constitution which gives the commons a power to check the king by withholding the supplies, gives afterwards the king a power to check the commons, by empowering him to reject their other bills; it again supposes that the king is wiser than those whom it has already supposed to be wiser than him. A mere absurdity!

There is something exceedingly ridiculous in the composition of monarchy; it first excludes a man from the means of information, yet empowers him to act in cases where the highest judgment is required. The state of a king shuts him from the world, yet the business of a king requires him to know it thoroughly; wherefore the different parts, unnaturally opposing and destroying each other, prove the whole character to be absurd and useless.

Some writers have explained the English constitution thus; the king, say they, is one, the people another; the peers are an house in behalf of the king; the commons in behalf of the people; but this hath all the distinctions of an house divided against itself; and though the expressions be pleasantly arranged, yet when examined they appear idle and ambiguous; and it will always happen, that the nicest construction that words are capable of, when applied to the description of something which either cannot exist, or is too incomprehensible to be within the compass of description, will be words of sound only, and though they may amuse the ear, they cannot inform the mind, for this explanation includes a previous question, viz. how came the king by a Power which the people are afraid to trust, and always obliged to check? Such a power could not be the gift of a wise people, neither can any power, which needs checking, be from God; yet the provision, which the constitution makes, supposes such a power to exist.

But the provision is unequal to the task; the means either cannot or will not accomplish the end, and the whole affair is a felo de se; for as the greater weight will always carry up the less, and as all the wheels of a machine are put in motion by one, it only remains to know which power in the constitution has the most weight, for that will govern; and though the others, or a part of them, may clog, or, as the phrase is, check the rapidity of its motion, yet so long as they cannot stop it, their endeavors will be ineffectual; the first moving power will at last have its way, and what it wants in speed is supplied by time.

That the crown is this overbearing part in the English constitution needs not be mentioned, and that it derives its whole consequence merely from being the giver of places pensions is self-evident, wherefore, though we have and wise enough to shut and lock a door against absolute monarchy, we at the same time have been foolish enough to put the crown in possession of the key.

Arthur reads the last three paragraphs, then the bell rings ending the class.

Thomas Paine's 'Common Sense'

The prejudice of Englishmen, in favor of their own government by king, lords, and commons, arises as much or more from national pride than reason. Individuals are undoubtedly safer in England than in some other countries, but the will of the king is as much the law of the land in Britain as in France, with this difference, that instead of proceeding directly from his mouth, it is handed to the people under the most formidable shape of an act of parliament. For the fate of Charles the First, hath only made kings more subtle not more just.

Wherefore, laying aside all national pride and prejudice in favor of modes and forms, the plain truth is, that it is wholly owing to the constitution of the people, and not to the constitution of the government that the crown is not as oppressive in England as in Turkey.

An inquiry into the constitutional errors in the English form of government is at this time highly necessary; for as we are never in a proper condition of doing justice to others, while we continue under the influence of some leading partiality, so neither are we capable of doing it to ourselves while we remain fettered by any obstinate prejudice. And as a man, who is attached to a prostitute, is unfitted to choose or judge of a wife, so any prepossession in favor of a rotten constitution of government will disable us from discerning a good one.

End of Thomas Paine's 'Common Sense' reading.

"Inspiring class, thank you all for your participation today. Have a great week end, see you Monday." It was some of the fastest 45 minutes at Chardin High.

At lunch that afternoon Elphin Taliesin was beside himself wondering just what it was that this older woman had for him. His imagination was running wild when around the corner walked Megan Mead. She was a red headed, green eyed Irish girl. She had a ready smile and her eyes shone brightly as she met Elphin.

"Hello Meg my fine lady how are you today?"

"Just fine Elphin and you, how are you doing?"

"Great Meg! My sister tells me you have something for me?"

"I do Elphin. You know how I love musicals and Broadway shows. Well I heard your lyrics the other day for the musical you are working on with the jazz band and chorus for Mr. Jones. I was so moved that I wanted to give you my all time favorite book of poetry by William Butler Yeats. He was a very politically involved individual during his life time in Ireland and something of a mystic as well. I thought you might get something out of reading his poetry and maybe it would inspire your future writing about the world we find ourselves living in today."

"Meg you are so wonderful and thoughtful. My lyrics reflect the world I see us kids living in today. It is so confusing that to write about it artfully just gets harder and harder for me and I'm only 15 years old. I don't have writers cramp, just the opposite, it's writing it positive that stumps me most. You understand I'm sure, global warming but record winter snow falls in some places and yet we learn that there is a global diminishing of snow falls around the world. We learned in Environmental Science that the Bering Sea was ice-free for the first time last year since these things have been followed. Now I'm not complaining really, it's a complicated world I know, but it's just so paradoxical. It seems the planet is losing while business plows ahead for greater profits. Sometimes I think we are on a crash course with reality and the only vibrant art now is the art of living gracefully like Father Wilde in my 'World Religions and Spiritual Perspectives' class says."

They are both quiet for a minute then Elphin speaks up again. "Did you know that the first black saint of the Americas was San Martin de Porres? and that when he was a young man he swept the floors of the Domincan infirmary all while in such a state of prayer that people in the wards started to have miraculous healings. They figured out it was the simple janitor who was praying while sweeping their floors while smiling a lot. They made him the first Afro-American Dominican in the order. Seems he was conducting this healing energy. He went on to become South America's patron saint. Did you know that Meg?"

"No Elphin I did not know that, but I do now and such a beautiful bit of history, thank you good lad for sharing those high vibes with me Elphin, you are a gentleman and a scholar."

Elphin turned to her and said, "Easy on the gentleman part of that equation, I just could surprise you." They laughed together.

"It is strained right now Elphin but like the old song says, 'what the world needs now is love, sweet love'  not hate, not fear, not anything but love, that's how I have come to see it anyway. I want to read one of my favorite Yeats poems to you Elphin, I do hope you enjoy reading him as much as I have over the last few years."

"I will make it a priority to read your gifted book Meg and I do appreciate your concern for my art taking a step up the ladder of refinement. Meg I bet you were an alchemist your last life around these parts, you make me feel so good."

"Don't know about that my little Elphin but I felt you would not take offense if I talked to you about your poetry. I knew your active imagination would be working overtime about my mysterious request to meet with you this afternoon. Hope I did not disappoint you? I want to read a poem by William Butler Yeats for you Elphim, it is titled 'Wisdom'". Elphin smiles at Meg as she begins to read the poem slowly with a slight degree of reverence.

Wisdom

The true faith discovered was
When painted panel, statuary.
Glass-mosaic, window-glass,
Amended what was told awry
By some peasant gospeller;
Swept the Sawdust from the floor
 Of that working-carpenter.
Miracle had its playtime where
In damask clothed and on a seat
Chryselephantine, cedar-boarded,
His majestic Mother sat
Stitching at a purple hoarded
That He might be nobly breeched
In starry towers of Babylon
 Noah's freshet never reached.
King Abundance got Him on
 Innocence; and Wisdom He.
That cognomen sounded best
 Considering what wild infancy
Drove horror from His Mother's breast.

When she had finished reading the poem she looked at Elphin then repeated some of the poem's lines once again.

Considering what wild infancy
Drove horror from His Mother's breast.

"Those words are so beautiful they sometimes bring me to tears Elphin. You could write like that someday if you worked at it and wanted it badly enough. Just write to the soul of the American's and the world you will succeed beyond your wildest imaginations. We are a great nation that needs some clarification now as to what is so very, very important and what is not really so important. I really believe that Elphin Taliesin and I think you can be part of this rebirth of our collective consciousness. Just do it in love, I guess that's all I'm saying."

"Thanks Meg, I understand, youthful angst but rage rock is probably not what we need now. To each their own I guess. Anyway I will read Mr. Yeats and think about what you have said."

"Good! Now I need to know just one thing, did you hear about Arthur, Wain , Ira and Kuna finding the Round Table of Arthur and the knights? The word is out and everyone is talking about it."

"They think so I have not seen it yet only some pictures of some strange looking fish man or something. But yes they think they have found it and are concerned that some folks around here would rather they just forgot about it. Like it is being used for other than altruistic purposes. So they have to be careful or could get in some serious trouble with suits, military people and weird juvenile occultists. Not sure what's up with them but they think they are on to them. They say Miss Ceridwen Downs is a very powerful witch who is out to hypnotize them or worse so that she can work her wicked magic upon the lands. She is in on the cover-up big time they say."

"I have to get to my next class early Elphin but I want you to be careful. A dead knight, I could never bear such a thing happening to you."

"My word of honor, I will be careful fair lady. Thanks again for the poetry. I will read it. And I do understand what you have said about writing from love with the words that heal."

That afternoon the orchestra - percussion section and singers in the chorus met for rehearsal. Mr. Tones Jones greeted them warmly then went right to work. Any new lyrics to submit today?

"As I said yesterday I think we have a monster here. So let's work with in a 4- 4  time in the 1st act in C major striving for a lightness here and then moving into a 2-4 time for the 2nd act in C."

Again the usual pandemonium breaks out in the shoe box orchestra hall. All the voices and instruments start tuning up, voices, horns, percussion instruments.

"Let's go. 1,2,3,4 " keeping time, as he did with the baton in his right hand while his out stretched left hand was gesturing in a circular motion about chest high..

"Music, bass, chorus, percussion, mandolins, good, voices up, good, horns soft, down...bring it up now slow1,2,3,4, 1,2,3,4 up.. good. We are cooking now 1,2,3,4, good groove, see the blue, feel the blue, C major , feel the red C,.." He walks over to the sound system and puts on the Vivaldi Concerto in C for Mandolin part 3 Allegro moderato.

"Hear the great feeling in this piece of music and put that feeling in your singing and your lyrics, then you got the spirit of art and art follows the spirit."

Jasmine, Niki, Jonathan Edwards, Luna Lenz, Blossom, and the rest of the chorus and band take it from the top.

As this healing feeling flows through the lands,
what is, never was, what was, will never be again.

"Knowest thou what thou are
In the hour of sleep-
a mere body- a mere soul-

Or a secret retreat of the light?" (1)"Beautiful! Ira I need a little more weightless, joyful feel with the Alto Sax when the refrain Knowest thou what thou are- four bars in G with the 4 - 4 tempo then moving into a B with the 2 - 4 tempos with a feeling of going towards the light with the second and last stanza of again.

'As this healing feeling flows through the lands, what is, never was, what was, will never be again'. .... this is the soul of your chorus, let it speak to all the ears in your audience."

"Speak to the journey of the human spirit and visualize its pilgrimage from an ancient past with the guidance of the angels, spirits, to the Prophets, to Buddha, to Jesus Christ, then the Prophet, all who have led or lead the world's humanity today. Then it goes red and halleluiah we find our own inner light after the great travels we have made through the world. Now we struggle to gain the power to radiate this insight of the light within out over the entire Earth... That's the weaving we are looking at here seems to me. Far off blues to inside reds then glory, glory we ray this 'insight of the light' out on to the entire world, green as God's green earth. From the blues of far off into the red's of life's passions and struggles to 'be' human. Then glory, glory the radiant golden sun shines on all the world feeding the green jewel of our world. Does that paint a road map that we can us here you think?"(1)

Luna Lenz speaks up saying, "Said like a professor of music. You could have us singing in the choir at church...  taking up water color painting if your not careful Mr. Jones." The musicians and singers laugh at the comment.

"Could not hurt. Let's go. 1-2-3-4 keeping time, as he always did with the baton in his right hand while his out stretched left hand gestured with the familiar circular motion about chest high.. then when the parts of the work he wanted an emphasis on he used his right hand to indicate the feeling and color desired, conveyed by the speed of his circular motions and it's position in relation to his torso. From the bottom of their feet to the tops of their heads Mr. Tones Jones communicated with the orchestra and chorus as with a sign language that did not need words to get the desired effects. They were of one mind filling in the ridges and valleys of the work, it was coming along nicely."

Like John at the River Jordan healing folk in the long healing moments of the evenings sunsets.

Friday Evening

The bonfire was a decades old tradition at Chardin High School. It was held in a big, open field located at an old, no longer in business, New Bloom nursery across from the schools athletic fields. The site overlooked the sound and was the first big social event of the school year for the high school students. The drum circle had evolved over the last ten years or so, it was tolerated now and had become part of the Chardin High bond fire fall gathering and rally. Generally it was the percussion players in the school orchestra but over the last few years more students who just happened to drum on their own were now showing up for the fall gathering kicking off the school year and coming winter.

As the students gathered at their pep rally for the fall, a thousand or so students, parents, priests and a few nuns milled on the banks of the sound. They gathered around a medium sized pyre that had been built just that afternoon with some old uprooted and dead fruit trees. The football team put a logging crew together and cut up some 5 dead pear trees for the bond fires fuel. They were old fruit trees, perhaps 35 years old. Now used as fire wood for the gathering of the clans out on the sound of Long Island, New York. What had fed the residents of the area once was now being burned for this joyous and warm festival.

As they had when they attended Chardin High as students when they were teenagers Merry and Abe Twilight were there once again as were Cain and Ann Cain. They saw each other and extended greetings.

"Hello Cain, hello Ann" Merry Twilight called out to the Wrights. Merry wanted to keep on friendly terms with them as they were a link to her son's life and it always helped to hear what the boys were up to from other parents.

"Hello Twilights" Cain Wright responds, "nice night out here tonight, isn't it."

"Sure is, an evening twilight fit for the ..well you know what I mean Ann.. so nice to see you again. How are you woman, long time. Still watching Oprah? girl!" The two woman laugh, Ann shakes here head.

"Yes I am and I still love it. The graphics of that show alone are mind altering."

Cain overhearing the comment while chatting with Abe turned abruptly to his wife saying, "What did you say!"

"Just an expression honey, don't have an aneurysm over it."

Turning back to Merry she smiles wide as a Halloween pumpkin. Merry says to her,  "you want to take a walk with me friend, we will let the boys here talk shop while we go see who's here and talk." "Sure" Ann says. Turing back to her husband Ann Wright announced in no uncertain terms that she was leaving with her old friend Merry Twilight to see what they could before dark and catch up on old times. They were then walking away from the men in a flash, like two quail hens in search of something.

"Did he show you the pictures?" "Sure did, what do you think Merry, what is that thing?" "It's an ancient artifact. Probably 10 million years old, and it could be a lot older than that." "Do you think it's safe to be fooling around with something like that, a totally strange thing?" " If the right people are notified it could turn out o.k. but it's a toss up as to what could possibly come of it."

"Merry some how I don't have a good feeling about Wain and Arthur being in on something like this. I think their lives could be endangered if they are not careful. You say the right people, but who are they. Surly not the Feds, Cain always says you want to screw things up just invite the Feds in and you will see some serious screwing up. So who Merry? who is going to help our boys stay out of trouble on this!"

Merry could feel Ann's concern and for the first time realized that possibly her son Arthur was going to need a little more help than she had at first thought. From Ann's concern Merry Twilight was now concerned and determined to see her son Arthur through this labyrinth safely. The two woman walk up to the pyre. It was not yet lit so they then turned and walked out to the point overlooking the sound. Far out on the water Merry thought she saw a sail boat. She pointed it out to Ann, "look Ann a sail boat way out there, late to be sailing isn't it."

"Not unless your an owl, but otherwise yes it's pretty close to dusk" Ann replied.

"Oh look Ann their are many of them!" "My good god woman you are right. Look at them, old looking things, those aren't from here Merry, those are from across the seas. Look at them,.." The two women could hardly believe what they were seeing. As the twilight evening faded Merry, looking hard at the sailing vessels said,

"those are phantom ships Ann, not real ships at all. See how they are fading in and out of our views? See the double ender shapes, those canoes are the ancient sailing vessels of the south sea islands, and they have not been built that large for nearly 500 years or longer Ann!"

"Phantom ships like in phantom pains from an amputated limb?"

"That's right Ann, the same thing, only with ships that are not really there. Or I don't think they are there."

"Do you think anyone else sees them Merry? Maybe we should call over some people to look at them with us, see if anyone else sees them."

"I don't know Ann, maybe they are not supposed to be seen by anyone else but and those who might be seeing them right now along with us. I don't really know, all I  know is that we are seeing them now and that's probably for a reason." They stand there looking at the sailing vessels until they could not make out their forms any longer.

The fire was now being lit and the crowd was gathering around the pile of old pear trees. Seems as the dark set in none had noticed the boats out on the water except for Merry and Ann. Or if others had seen they they were not talking about it. Walking towards the fire Ann spoke asking,

"Merry do you think those boats out there have anything to do with our boys and their little find this week?"

"That is a good question woman. I would not be surprised really." As they got closer to the fire they met up with their husbands. The fire was now taking off, the old pear tree limbs and root balls were perfect party pleasers even providing the gathering with their sweet fragrance now filling the air. The stars were just coming out and could be seen over head.

The families, priests and nuns, students and friends all stood there enjoying the warmth and beauty of the fire. The drum circle began to drum and as the fire grew so did the tenor and pitch of the drums. It was really quite inspirational for the crowd but did have a small ring of something very ancient and primal about it. Everyone just put that aside though and in time came to accept the drummers at the bond fire as just part of the event and even the religious among them were seen over the years to be grooving to the beat now and then. The event was appreciated by all present that night out there on the Long Island Sound.

Jasmine, Niki and Ira, Jonathan Edwards, Luna Lenz and Wain Wright all went together that night. Arthur and Blossom joined them at the pyre. Many different drums from the continent of Africa, the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Viet Nam, Native American, Central and South American. The drum circle lacked no imagination when it came to drums from around the world.

Blossom looks at Arthur and just smiles at him. He is playing a bongo drum he brought with him, he is beyond himself with joy. She knew thinking to herself that,

"he will be o.k., he's tough as his dad and charmed like his mother. But 'the powers that be' would never want the world to know of this find of theirs, the ' Round Table of the Knights of Arthur'  found right here on Long Island, New York. And anyway they probably knew it already and just did not want anyone else to know, keep it their secret. He will be o.k., he's tough as his dad and charmed like his mother.."

She was not sure but she loved Arthur and wanted only the best for him. The fire grew true to its source, it filled the air with the strong fragrance of pear and burned a soft pink in color. It was a fire as in love with its watchers burning white, red, black, leaping up to the sky as cloud white, gray, dark blue doves. The bond fire grew in size.

They were laughing and having a wonderful time tonight as the drumming went into a new time and beat filling the air with mirth and merry making. Like a thousand voices singing with a deep feeling of gratitude for all God's blessings here at home, the crowd sang loud and clear.

Or a secret retreat of the light?" (1)

What is, never was, what was, will never be again.

The drum circle drummed late into the night. The stars dancing in the air above them. It was so clear you could see into eternity this night, or at least 14 - 15 - 20 billion years of it, who's counting. The old nights sky gave them all a 'big breathing perspective' of themselves and seemed to cast things a new in view. The sky was as a visual vehicle into all their futures perhaps. Seemed right somehow out there on the Long Island sound looking into the great, pear trees fire. Then turning to look out into the dark, star illumined space for billions of years.

Early Saturday Morning

Mr. Gallo Lenz was in his library. He was expecting Wain Wright and Ira Johannes that morning with some translating they wanted him to do for them. He had several language dictionaries out on his desk. He lived in his three room home with his aging mother, his daughter Luna and his wife Celeste Lenz. They were Spanish from the Pyrenees's region of Spain. He was a scholar of ancient languages and antiquities besides being a jeweler and was always willing to give a hand to his young apprentice Wain and his friends. It is early Saturday morning 9:15 when he hears the front door bell ring. Its Wain and Ira.

He greets them as he opens up the front door. "Good morning Wain, and this must be Ira Johannes? Come in please. Good to meet you young man, Wain tells me so much about you, it is fine to meet you Arthur Twilight, thank you so much for coming over this morning. Please come into my study and let us take a look at this script, you have some etchings of it and wish that I can translate for you. Lets see if we can get lucky. " He says it excitedly as they walk into his large study, the boys are smiling to each other.

When they get into the study Ira reaches into his jacket pocket and takes out the etch and rendering of the writing then hands it to Mr. Gallo Lenz .

He quietly looks at the script, then looking up at the boys he says to them, "make yourselves comfortable, lots of books to look at here, plenty of nice chairs to make yourselves comfortable. This will take me the better part of an hour to translate, so please, make yourselves at home."

He immediately goes to work paging through the texts he had earlier set on his desk. The two friends went about walking around the very well stocked study. The first thing they noticed when they were finally relaxed enough to just look around the room was the shield and crossed swords hanging on the wall. The coat of arms on the shield was a green and blue stripe running the length of the shield, with a red cross stripe crossing the colors close to the top of the shield and giving very much the appearance of a cross. The swords were large with the blades width looking to be 5 inches in diameter at the butt of the blade tapering out to 4 inches near its tip. A large photograph hung on the walls of a big snow covered mountain range. The boys had seen many pictures of the Himalayas and knew this was a different range but they were not sure which it was.

"The Pyrenees" Mr. Gallo Lenz said. "Saw you looking at the photo, they are the Pyrenees Mountains that run through my homeland of Spain."

"Beautiful mountains they are Mr. Lenz" Ira says, continuing, "one could get lost in 'them thar hills' if one did not have their wits about them." The three smile as Mr. Lenz nods slowly in agreement.

"They are mountains with a great deal of legend and lore that carries over from the last ice age 11,400 years ago. Some call it the vaults of Atlantis, others think they were once home for the Knights of the Round Table."

The boys are caught cold in their tracks. Did Mr. Gallo Lenz know of their discovery already, they were wondered to themselves. They said nothing as he jeweler went back to his research. After what seemed only a few minutes he broke the silence about 45 minutes later.

"It's a quote that shows up later in the the Old Testament of the Bible by Isaias chap.51 ver.1 and 2 but there is no attribution, as if it had been written even before the books of the Bible. Islands are mentioned in Isaias 51 verse 5 interestingly. It begins with, "My just one is near at hand"...' ends with' "the islands shall look for me, and shall patiently wait for my arm."Perhaps the islands are the Phoenician Islands as this script has some very, 'bery' distinct Hebraic signatures to it as well!" He reads it to them.

"Listen Pursue Righteousness and Seek the Lord; Look to the Rock from which you were cut, the Quarry form from which you were Hewn; Abraham, your Father,  Sarah, Who Gave You Birth. When I called him he was but ONE,  I blessed him and made him Many."

He paused for a few seconds and then spoke again. "The other quote is about the l0 tribe of Israel, the Asher tribe, and says, "when the stone is found then will the10th tribe of Asher return to claim it's birth rights."

The jeweler looked at the young men and then asked them, "find any rocks of note lately?"

 Saturday Morning at the Twilight's

Merry Twilight was up early this Saturday. She prepared breakfast for herself and waited for the men of the house to rise. She lit a candle in the living room and then turned on the local college station on to listen to the Saturday Jazz programming that they ran weekend mornings. She sat quietly sipping her green tea thinking about what she had seen yesterday with Ann Wright while out at the bond fire last evening. She know knew that their son Arthur was in on something that could get him in trouble if he was not careful. She was thinking about how she might be able to help him when he walked into the kitchen.

"Morning mom, you're up early. What a bond fire last night, I had a great time. You and dad like it?"

"It was fine son. We saw the Wright's and caught up on old news. Ann says you and Wain may have stumbled into something. Something that might get you and Wain into more than you had imagined."

"You know the Wright's mom, they do worry about Wain a lot. Must be the only kid syndrome or something. Don't worry we think we have it under control, it not we will just leave it alone. Got my future to think about you know, don't want a Fed rap sheet for our dumb luck. Do know what I mean mom. Not worth it really."

"Arthur Twilight why is it I get nervous when I hear you say 'don't worry' and 'not worth it really' when all I really hear you saying is 'oh man have we done it this time' rushing like an under current beneath what you want me to hear. Personally I think this thing is bigger than all of us and I think we might want to get some help on this project before it, well bites our butts, if you know what I mean."

By this time Arthur was seated at the kitchen table eating the breakfast that his mother had prepared for him. As he ate he looked at up at her, "you saw them yesterday didn't you mom?"

"Yes I did Arthur, so did Ann Wright. That's when we realized that you and the others may have made a discovery that has set a clockwork like series of events into motion. Those Galls we saw yesterday were phantom ships Arthur, they have returned into view for a reason. We think your find is the reason for this appearance."

"That's probably why Miss Ceridwen Downs and her accomplices don't want us to bring it to the attention of the public because they have their own plans in the works. I think they are up to no good mom and together, all of us, I think we can foil their evil plans. Wain and Ira took the inscription from the cave to Mr. Lenz this morning to see if he might be able to translate it. We should then have a better idea what it is we are looking at then."

"Yes that's a good idea. Why didn't I think of that, yes Mr. Gallo Lenz can help us all with this. Sits on the Museum Board of Directors, is fluent in many foreign languages and knows a great deal about Medieval history as well. Have you ever seen the shield and crossed swords he has hanging in his library?

"Not yet. Wain tells me the man knows everything there is to know about Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Has a library full of very old manuscripts." Arthur finished his breakfast then said to his mother, "I am meeting Wain and Ira this afternoon out at the beach.  I should be home about 6 this evening and will let you know what we have found out."

"Be careful Arthur and I think it might be a good idea to stay away from the quarry for a few days, let things cool down a bit, you know what I mean?"

"That's just what we were thinking mom, weekends are not good, so we are laying low until next week, then we will check it out again possibly, but the word is out and I don't really like the reaction of Miss Ceridwen Downs, the woman is very devious and wicked, I think she would rather see this discovery forgotten than have it brought into the light of day."

"All the more reason to be cautious. We don't want any trouble for you boys and the Wright's are absolutely determined to see that Wain stays free and clear of any problems, problems that could easily come out of an involvement like this."

"I do understand mom." Arthur packed a lunch and was off to meet up with his friends. Out at the beach it was bright and warm for the fall time. He met Wain and Ira and they walked along the beach.

"What did you learn from Mr. Gallo Wain?"

The three young men found a drift log to sit up against. Ira took the notes Mr. Gallo had made on his copy of the inscription from the cave. He explained to Arthur,

"it's an ancient quote written in Phoenician, it says, "Listen Pursue Righteousness and Seek the Lord; Look to the Rock from which you were cut, the Quarry form from which you were Hewn; Abraham, your Father,  Sarah, Who Gave You Birth. When I called him he was but ONE,  I blessed him and made him Many."

"That's it?" Arthur asked.

"No there is a second quote and it says a 'l0 tribe of Israel, the Asher tribe, will appear, when the stone is found then will the10th tribe of Asher return to claim it's birth rights'."

"So we found the stone and that's why the Galls have made their appearance again. Did Mr. Lenz ask any questions?"

"Yes he asked us if we had found any rocks of note lately?" they all laugh.

"Did you bring your binoculars with you Wain?" Arthur asked.

"Sure did Arthur" taking them out of his back pack and handing them to Arthur.

He looks out to sea and filling the horizon are dozens of the Galls, colored sails full of wind moving them along. "There they are, clear as any vision or dream."

"Let me see, seems the trigger has been triggered good Knight Arthur" Wain said to his friend. "Look at them, such beautiful colored sails."

"My turn" Ira said and Wain then hands him the glasses."

Ira now looks through the glasses and says, "they are so big, looks like a hundred rowers in some of them."

"Do you mean that these boats, Galls as you call them Arthur have sailed here from across the ocean. Isn't that a bit far fetched even for us, the MTV saturated generation?' Ira says.

"Well Ira all I can tell you is that they are illusions, visions, day time dreams, of a time long since gone but now for some reason they have returned to this time."

"You mean those ships out there are just a mass hallucination on our parts" asked Wain.

"No rather they are like 'psychic loops in the tapes of time' so to speak. Put another way they are messengers from our ancient past trying to tell us something about the times we live in now."

"So let me see if I have this right. These Phoenician Galls we are looking at now are really just phantoms of our imaginations and really they are not there, we just think they are."

Arthur is quiet for a minute and then says," they are there just their there is another time long since passed. They are here to give us a message from there to here, now."

The vessels filled the horizon now and all 3 of them could see the sailing Galls. "Do you think he might see us again this afternoon?" Arthur asked the others.

"Sure he would last thing he said as we were leaving this morning was "I would very much like to meet Arthur Twilight, Luna tells me he has made a very important discovery. I think your script all but verifies this."

"He knows then and I think we are going to need his help to make sure nothing underhanded happens with this discovery of ours." Looking out on the sound again with Ira's binoculars Arthur exclaims, "look at those sails, they are huge and so colorful, reds, purples and orange."

As they were sitting there a couple walked past them. Wain called out to them. "Excuse me but do either of you see anything out there on the horizon?" The couple stops, looks out over the water for several seconds then turns to the young men saying, "no, why you guys seeing things out there?" Wain answered them saying, "no just wondering if you guys saw anything out there that maybe we were missing." His response to the couple made no sense really but it did not seem to matter to them as they continued  on walking away from them down the coast line seemingly not even aware of his odd reply.

"Wain your powers of deduction are overwhelming, "no just wondering if you guys saw anything out there that maybe we were missing" the young men laughed together. "Well I learned real quick that not everyone is seeing what we are seeing right now, that's all I needed to know. And why bother showing folk things that they don't even see, would probably think we were drinking beer or something."

"More like Tequila or moonshine" Ira says laughing. The three young men got up and walked back to their cars. They drove to a small market and used the pay phone to call Mr. Gallo Lenz.

"Hello"

"Mr. Lenz this is Wain, do you think we could come by and see you this afternoon, we have Arthur with us and think it might be a good idea if he met with you."

"Yes by all means bring the lad over Wain I am free all afternoon."

"We will be right over sir, thank you. See you in 15 minutes."

"Very good, look forward to it."

The young men got in their cars and drove to Mr. Gallo Lenz's house. When they got there Mr. Lenz greeted them at his front door. Wain introduced Arthur to the jeweler and they stepped inside the house and walked again immediately into his study.

"I am very happy you came back Wain and meeting your friend Arthur Twilight is just what the doctor ordered. Arthur Wain tells me that you found the translated script in a cave out of town a ways. Did you know that there is a lot of lore attached to your discovery?"

"No sir I really did not know that, but I do know that there are people out there that would rather we not make this discovery know."

They all sat down in the various chairs in the study. Then Mr. Lenz said to Arthur, "you young man have answered the prophesy - Asher the l0 tribe of Israel, the Asher tribe, will appear, when the stone is found then will the10th tribe of Asher return to claim it's birth rights'. "And it is written in ancient Phoenician but does have some very distinct Hebraic signatures as I explained to Wain and Ira earlier today."

"The biblical sounding quote pre dates the bible by 10's of thousands of years, exampled by the language of the inscriptions. The quote as you now know, 'Listen Pursue Righteousness and Seek the Lord; Look to the Rock from which you were cut, the Quarry form from which you were Hewn; Abraham, your Father,  Sarah, Who Gave You Birth. When I called him he was but ONE, I blessed him and made him Many' is found in the Old Testament of the Bible, Isaias chapter 51 verses 1 and 2."

He paused for a few seconds and then spoke again. "The other quote is about the l0 tribe of Israel, the Asher tribe, and says, "when the stone is found then will the10th tribe of Asher return to claim it's birth rights." The jeweler looked at Arthur and said, "you good Knight Arthur have set the wheels in motion to stop a terrible crime from happening in the great land of the brave and free."

"Why would anyone really want this kept from the people of America and the world" Wain asked Mr. Lenz.

"Power Wain, plain and simple. If the race of humanity is linked to an ancient past and it's future well fare is dependent on a discovery being made that can truly bring the world together well that is a threat to the handful of people who now control the planet. They wish only to keep humanity at odds with each other not that the world should become a better place for all people. Fear and loathing still carry the day, not enlightened leadership."

Arthur listened closely to what Mr. Lenz said then asked him a question.

"Sir why would anyone want to bring the world to it's knees just for economic gain and social control?"

"Because they are scared of the future and want us all to fear it as well. That's how you control people and keep them blind folded about environmental damage, dangerous nuclear power plants leaking spent fuels into our ground waters and the all together painful condition of many humans on the planet today."

"You mean that these powerful industrialists and old families would actually bring the world to the brink of disaster to prevent us from knowing our ancient and noble origins? A species morphing into the 21 st Century as a viable cooperative species with hopeful global futures! That is a threat to these scardy cats?" Ira asked.

"Yes they would, and we have only our god given resources to stand against them. They do not really believe in anything except themselves and their survival, the rest of us are as reptile brains to be conditioned. You see wealth has so pooled itself in the hands of just 300 people that they can basically direct and slow the course of innovation."

"This is not good is it Mr. Lenz? Arthur says.

"No Arthur it is not, but you my good Knight Arthur have stepped into the middle of their secret plans for the world. The questions on the quest to unravel their sinister plot, once uncovered the world will move ahead into the 21st century. If you do not get the questions asked, it does not look good for the planet at large, because these people depend on us staying ignorant of their reptilian brained world view."

They were quiet now, all deep in thought until Mr. Lenz spoke again. "You were not supposed to find their artifacts Arthur, they have been know of for a very long time.  The plan was that when the discovery was announced 'Arthur's Round Table found' by the 'powers that be' it would be the signal for these elitists to start their planed mass murder of the world's population. This would entail a mass war with democracy reserved for only the very powerful and rich. Humanity would be greatly reduced in numbers and put under the yoke of this new world vision held by this small handful of people."

"The galls, where you aware Mr. Lenz that Arthur, Ira and I have seen a fleet of these ancient vessels out on the sound? Are they part of this discovery that Arthur has led us to?"

"Yes they are, I have been seeing them myself for about a month. As I'm sure you have discovered they are phantoms, like pictures frozen in time and triggered by events that are now occurring. You have been picked to help save what democracy the world now has, if you fail the world will the less for it. The galls and canoes are here to carry us on the waves of the flood Arthur. They sailed through the last flood and they are here now to sail through this next one if the world does not change it's ways."

Arthur looked up at the shield and crossed swords hanging on the wall. They seemed oddly familiar to him, as though he had seen them before. The singing that Arthur had heard so many times before was now heard again, and as they looked at each other they noticed that even Mr. Gallo Lenz was hearing it as well.

So in conscious sleep dream of health, our well being restored,

Saturday Night at the Twilight's

Arthur walked into his home at 6:00 and as was his custom he paged through the daily newspaper that laid on the couch in the living room. In the business section of the paper he noticed a three paragraph story about layoffs out at the Plumb Island facility. He called out to his mother who was now in the kitchen preparing dinner, "why is Plumb Island laying off security out at it's labs facility mom?"

"Money I guess, but it does seem strange that a place that sensitive would be laying people off, you would think that they would be hiring more security. Good question Arthur, I'll call our Congressman's office and ask some questions."

"Good going mom, we got to keep these people under the magnifying glass I guess or they pretty much do what they want, and all in our best interest I'm sure! They work for us right, all the politicians, all the bureaucrats, the state and federal employees, all of them, they  work for the tax paying American citizens, correct mom?"

"That's right Arthur, they are public servants as the phrase goes."

"Why do I get the feeling that unless we start asking tough questions we are not going to get solutions to the big problems that we all face now on the planet. Is it that problems unacknowledged are as problems non existent, that is very weird psychology isn't mom?"

"It's called denial Arthur, if we don't acknowledge global warming maybe a miracle will occur taking it away. Or scaling back the industrial development we are providing the third world with now in the 21st century. What do we do instead, we harness them with outdated 19th century technology when what we should be doing is providing them with state of the art technology and teach them how to use it."

Abe Twilight walks into the house after working all day in the city. He greets his family as he goes to the bathroom to wash up for dinner. When he returns Arthur asked him how his day was. His father gave him the same answer he had given him for years when asked this question.

"Did not have to shoot anyone and thank God nobody took a shot at me, so it was a good day Arthur, thanks for asking." They sat down to dinner, said the grace and started eating. As they were eating Arthur asked his father if he felt like taking a drive with him after dinner and if he still had his heavy duty pry bar.

"Sure we can go out tonight, but the pry bar? what's up with that?"

"It's all legal dad, I just have this gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach, dinner's great though mom, that something needs doing out at the quarry real quick or we might have a big problem on our hands. I keep asking myself about that small white stone ‘the flat stone of Echemeint' that was glowing red outside the caves entrance."

"That place, I thought you were avoiding it until the week starts up again son? Are you like looking for some trouble or what Arthur?"

"Trust me dad, I just have to do this and I am going to need your moral support. I think it will take a lot of pressure off the situation we are finding ourselves in now."

Merry Twilight speaks up asking Arthur, "did you get some translations from Mr. Lenz this afternoon Arthur?"

"Yes we did mom and that's why I thought it might be best to get out there tonight and do something that dad and I did not really have time to do when we were out there last. The translations were in the Phoenician language but had some ancient Hebrew characters in it too. Mr. Lenz came to the idea that these artifacts were in fact from an ancient culture and that somehow when we discovered them we set in motion a mechanism that signals the ancients triggering their return as they were pre destined from an ancient past to do."

"That is so profound Arthur. Wow! Phoenician? then those ships, boats, galls are part of that mechanism isn't it. I am so glad you connected with Mr. Gallo Lenz, I knew the second you mentioned him, that was the person who could help you the most around these parts. Please be careful tonight men, I love you both so much. I will wait up for you guys and I'll light a candle, like you don't know that all ready." She said this almost shyly, she loved her men with all her heart and soul.

"We, I,  met Mr. Lenz this afternoon and yes I saw the shield and crossed swords. Very impressive, seemed that I had seen them before. Anyway he encouraged us to start asking some questions about these artifacts and to act quickly as he senses that something is a miss in the lands of milk and honey."

"Well son seems you've begun asking some questions of your own. Good for you, we are behind you all the way." Abe agreed, smiling then looking at his wife he said, "Phoenician ships" did I hear that correctly?

With the question Merry gladly answered him. He listened closely and said nothing, just smiled at his wife and son Arthur. He loved them with his heart and soul, they were unique individuals and he was happy to be part of their lives.

After dinner the two Twilight men drove out to the cypress quarry. They parked far off the road out of sight of any vehicles that might be passing by. They got out of Abe's truck, got the pry bar out of the bed of the truck and walked under the light of Arthur's flash light to the caves entrance. Walking over to the small white stone that sat just off the caves entrance Arthur stopped and took off his back pack. He took two breathing respirators out, handing one to his father while putting the other one on. Arthur turned to his father and said, "this is ‘the cell of Ceridwen’ the flat stone here is the stone of Echemeint that covers her cell. Ceridwen's cell dad, bad poison here, so don't stand in direct line of the out gassings that are about to happen. We are going to relieve some built up pressure here, this is a repository of death energies. Call it the gas of an old dragon witch if you will."

"At this point I'll do anything you ask sir."

Arthur took the pry bar and began working around the stones edges with the beveled tip slowly loosening the hard compacted earth around it.

"Now that is just plain weird just like last time we were here." Abe said as the stone began to glow a light red.

As Arthur continued digging around the white stone the color intensified as though it was responding to this intrusion of it's ground. They noticed the same steam, or gas beginning to escape from around the stones edges. It was the same phenomenon that they had observed last week. It seemed the stones movement was allowing a release of pressure from the earth's innards. Then suddenly the stone busted free of the soils hold and shots right past Arthur's head straight out into the night sky so fast it nearly de-headed him. It was as if an angel gently touched the fast moving stone with one of it's wings ever so slightly deflecting it away from the bold boy.

The sounds from the hole were as the wailings of hell. Loud and crowded, screaming all at the same time.

"Oh my good God Jesus Christ and Mother of God Mary can you believe that!" Abe Twilight was staggered by the blast and now the sounds. "That damn rock is alive, and those sounds down there don't sound warm just hellish. Arthur, I think I've seen enough tonight, after all it was a good day so why press our luck here. Let's get the flipping, dolphin hell out of here, now!"

They quickly got back to Abe's truck and drove directly home. As they pulled in the driveway a small candle burned in the bay window of the living room. It was soothing for them to see, they were glad to be home now. They had just done a great thing but would not even know the significance of their actions for the night. As Arthur fell to sleep he could see the great Galls sailing the Long Island sound. He could hear drummers and a chorus singing,

Or a secret retreat of the light?" (1)

What is, never was, what was, will never be again,
as this healing feeling flows through the lands.

Sunday Morning

It was a funny dream he had last night. Walking on to a golf course Arthur strikes up a conversation with  two ex-politicians. They did not seem the least bit disturbed by his appearance in their dream time nor did they pay any attention to what he had to say to them. This morning he thinks about the dreams and figured that some people just did not worry about things, they just did things. Arthur got dressed for church and meets his parents down stairs.

The priest Fr. Martin delivered a moving sermon this morning. He informed the congregation that a meteor had crashed into the earth last night. Seems it fell through the roof of the old abandoned mansion next to the rock quarry just before mid night last night. The gist of his sermon was how impermanent our time here on earth is and how important it is to make everyday count as it could be our last. Abe and Arthur were surprised to hear this bit of timely news and knew it was the stone of Echemeint that he was referring to. The priest continued, saying that it had caused an explosion in the abandoned mansion. This really surprised them and they wondered just what exploded out there. Dynamite left over from mining  days.. some secret bio-weapons lab?

As they were driving home Arthur asked his dad, "did I hear that right dad? An explosion out at the old rock quarry. Now what could that have possibly been? Were they running a lab out there or what? Do you think they were secretly testing weapons on us citizens dad?" .

"Probably, some sort of chemistry or even bugs, biological, I think we can safely say that. Poof and gone, so we might never know, every thing got cooked in the fire that the flat stone of  Echemeint caused. What concerns a lot of people is that a virulent airborne infectious agent can do much more harm than say a ton of anthrax could ever do."

"I think they were up to no good, really dad I do. Don't you think the world would be safer with a global ban or a treaty on germ and chemical weapons? Why not just sign some global agreement that makes any involvement with them punishable by death or impose mandatory economic sanctions on countries that continue after the agreements were signed?"

"You are probably right son but it needs global agreement and then strict enforcement. However as long as we are doing it we can't really set the course. We also need to get the inventions off the shelf that would allow the world freedom from oil and some enlightened thinking about narcotics or I'm afraid we are stuck in that box."

Abe enjoyed going over these global dilemmas with his son. The way he figured it, when those in global power passed on then young men like his son and young women would be in a positions to change things. That is if there was still time to do so.

"That one stone smashed their plans but I have a feeling these individuals are not gone dad."

"The thing that concerns me about all of this is that there is a cult in our world today son that honors the erupting energies of death and killing much as we here in America honor the joy of living. These confused lost souls actually look at life as if it were just a game of soccer to be won at all costs, even at the cost of life itself. That psychology is what concerns me the most."

"I agree dad. I think it's time to evolve as a species or forever hold our breath. What if there is an element on our planet today that thinks the world's population is not economically viable and wants to see it reduced to something like half the present population, what can we do about that?"

Abe sat quietly as he drove home, as he pulled in the driveway he turned to Arthur and said, "Say your prayers and recognize good ideas when you hear them, fight for them and demand your time on the soap box in Hyde Park, Central Park or even Red Square. If individuals, groups and Nations speed up the frequency of change in the world with their consciousness, it will become harder for any one group to control the planet."

"Pierre Teilhard de Chardin the French Jesuit paleontologist was optimistic about the future of humanity as I am too" Merry Twilight says smiling at the Twilight men.

"My high school's old name sake."

"That's right Arthur. A quote from his book 'The Phenomenon of Man' I still remember from my college philosophy class. He wrote, "We have as yet no idea of the possible magnitude of ' noospheric ' effects, ---human vibrations resounding by the million ---a whole layer of consciousness exerting simultaneous pressure upon the future and the collected and hoarded produce of a million years of thought. Have we ever tried to form an idea of what such magnitudes represent?"(5)

"Sounds like a powerful motor for change and very hopeful if humanity gets it together and raises the vibes on the planet then in potential we can all help to change the world for the better. Turning to his mother, 'hope springs eternal' and I might add 'life is eternal' and so the journey has just begun." The Twilight's smiled at each other as they got out of the car.

Once inside Merry prepared them a big breakfast. The Twilight's then did what they had done for many years, together they watched the Sunday afternoon NFL football game together on their television set. The New York Giants were playing the Chicago Bears and time seemed to stand still as they watched the game. The American invented sport of football sent a clear message to the rest of the world. Do not mess with us. Any country that can invent a game like U.S. football had to be a tough nation and it probably was a good idea to not  unduly provoke this great Nation. After the game, then dinner Arthur retired for the night brushing his teeth before he laid down in his bed. Quickly he feel into a state of sleep somewhere between awake and asleep called the hypnogogic state. Walking in the evening twilight hours Arthur heard the snare drum and mandolins playing once again, then the chorus singing,

No sooner had Arthur laid his head on his pillow then he was standing beside his bed looking at himself falling fast asleep. In a flash he was in Mr. Gallo Lenz's study, he looked at the shield and crossed swords intently then he remembered.12 battles all victorious, his teacher Merlin and his wife Guinevere and Camelot. The Lords and Ladies living like Kings and Queens all of it flashed before him. He could hear the merry making and the music. Then the drumming got louder and there once again were the Galls with their big sails filling the skyline. Arthur was standing on the shore looking at them with Wain, Ira and Kuna. They watched the sun set and stood talking in the dusky evening hours then Arthur was back in his bed sleeping soundly. He felt refreshed upon waking the next morning.

 Monday Morning

He got out of bed, played his snare drum for a few minutes then went to the bathroom and took a shower. Back to his room he dressed, played his snare drum for another 15 -20 minutes before going down stairs for breakfast which his mother would probably be preparing now. As he walked into the kitchen he was surprised to see her on the phone. She was talking to a political aide to the districts elected Congressperson. "Yes I would. Tell him cut backs in security at Plum Island labs is a bad idea. My name is Merry Twilight. I voted for the Senator and would like some action taken on this immediately. Yes my phone number is 432- 2128. Thank you." She hangs the phone up and immediately goes to the sink to wash her hands then starts to prepare the mornings breakfast.

"Can I pour you a glass of juice Arthur?"

"Sure mom. I heard, you called the Senator's office like you said you were going to do. Good for you girl, go girl, right, that's how it goes, 'you go girl' right.

"Right you are Arthur, either one, orange or grapefruit?"

"Pink or white?"

"Pink."

"Sure. Good for you girl, go girl, you go girl and just tell them what we need right now. Somebody has to or you might think democracy just runs itself. No we run it, the people of this democratic republic of these United States of America. Mr. Ben Baldur Monday morning, does not get any better than that mom. The man is a Monday morning jewel, can pep up any distractions or pains we might bring over from our weekends into class." As Merry prepared breakfast Arthur walked into the living room and started paging through morning paper. He noticed the candle on the sill was still lit so he walked over to it and before blowing it out made a wish. He wished he would see Blossom Rosenkreutz this morning before classes began.

Clear as a bell he heard the words,

"Sure, meet you at the black stone at 8:35 or so".

He smiled to himself blew the candle out and walked over to the couch and sitting down to read the morning paper. In a few minutes Merry called her son to breakfast. Abe walked in, sat down and together they said their grace. Then he turned to Arthur and said, "did we really do that Saturday night or was I dreaming that?"

"I know what you mean dad, no we did it you brave Knight of the Round Table. You were splendid."

"I bet, about.. you know, you were there. World Civ. should be a real kick in the pants today, maybe better put, a mule's kick in the head." They laugh then Arthur says,

"that battle ax is going down dad. We released the evil energies of the childish practioners of the black arts Saturday night dad. We are Knights of the Round Table and served the people of the lands well this weekend."

They ate the rest of their meal quietly. Then Arthur excused himself from the table, went upstairs, brushed his teeth, combed his hair then was saying 'good- bye' to his parents as he walked out the back door into the garage. He opened the garage door, then got into his '64 black Datsun. Started it up, drove over to Wain's house, honked with Wain was out his door in about 60 secs.. He got in the small four seater and together they rode off to Chardin High listening to the local Christian rock station.

As they pulled in the Chardin High's parking lot there she was Blossom Rosenkreutz just getting out of her Miami peach colored Honda Civic. She caught their eyes and waved to them. They waved back then they both heard the words,

"Hello good Knights Arthur and Wain, so good to see you this morning."

"To the black stone for talk." Arthur said and the others heard his words. Then Wain calls out to the others 'to the black stone' and the others heard it loud and clear. They were on the same wave length and enjoyed it very much. Once they arrived at the black stone it was 8:40, they had 20 minutes before their first class and made every minute count.

"You did it didn't you bold knights." The two knights, gentlemen they are did not deny nor concede anything. Wain smiled at Arthur then turned to Blossom and said quietly, "Only Arthur and his good father Abe went Saturday night into the dark forest lady Blossom."

"As 'Maria, Star of the Sea, approaches her rising to-day'. You good Knight Arthur are a 'star on the horizon'."(1)

"Good lady you fill my hearth with warmth, your kind words as poetry to my ears. I am most appreciative of your attention to my life's details. There is no higher complement I could receive."

"Arthur Twilight you are the real deal and I love you for it. The galls sails of  royal purple, burnt sienna and indigo we have been seeing were from our very ancient past. By the 16th century however a person could be put in prison for using or wearing indigo, it was by then called 'the devil's color'. The first great painter of our times to use indigo was El Greco of Spain."

"That's grim."

"I know. The royal colors of 10 thousand years ago Arthur. So intricately connected with our ancient past that they were assigned for use only by royalty and out lawed for all others to use later on in world history. Those are the colors we have been seeing on the galls sails these past 10 days Arthur!"

"You're 100% correct Blossom Rosenkreutz and for this reason and many more besides I think I have fallen in love with you."

The couple smiled at each other then Arthur took Blossom's hands in his. They were so warm, then he looked into her eye's while slowly moving his face towards her and very slowly kissed her lips. It was a short kiss but meant a lot to them. The 50 or so people around the table broke out in applause. Words to an old song were carried on the air now and all who had ears to hear heard the soft guitars, drums, mandolins and horns,

"Knowest thou what thou are
In the hour of sleep-
a mere body- a mere soul-
Or a secret retreat of the light?" (1)

What is, never was, what was, will never be again,
as this healing feeling flows through the lands.

Later that morning as the young men walked into their World Civilization class. Miss Ceridwen Downs was clearly having a bad morning. She looked slightly disheveled and as soon as she saw the boys walk in she spoke to them. The other students had little idea what she was talking about but figured it had to do with  the young men's discovery of the Round Table. The news was making the rounds around the campus now.

"Busy nights this weekend boys? you look tired. Young knights are you?" She said this with a subtle, ire disinterest, then launched her vitriol at them. Completely oblivious to the other students walking into her class now she says to them,

"Perhaps you think the electro-magnetic currents of the West are worth risking your lives for. We need this energy to keep your bodies and souls harnessed to this sphere of reference. Your sicknesses seen on the planet today could be healed with the frequencies of these electro- magnetic currents. We had planed to use this magnetism of the Earth upon you and your kind, working upon your bodies processes. (1) You stepped into the middle of our plans young Knights to reduce your over populated planet with some biological weapons that we have been developing over the past 20 years. We know what is best, we have worked with this energy for a thousand years and now have the ability to clear the earth of many of you. It is the reptilian brain that we must protect and have come to understand so very well."

At this point Arthur broke in speaking to the teacher. As the other students in the classroom listened quietly, wondering just what was up with Arthur. They sensed it was not friendly fire that she was drawing from Arthur now and listened closely.

"Miss Downs, the Tibetans have a place called the Bardo state while Christianity has a place called hell. Your childish death cult and mind manipulations have got nothing on either of these places. In fact it's really you who lives in these 'killing fields of the mind' that you know so much about. But you and all your treacherous companions are going there if you don't change the course of your actions real fast. That, Miss Downs, will be even more of a terrifying place then the hell that you wish to bring upon the Earth. All your kind want is to fill our subconscious minds with fear, preventing any healing or rising above these troubled times our world is in today."

The other student's cheered figuring Arthur's short speech was about the teacher's home work assignment. Most the students actually got a bad vibe off the woman, she was just so cold, strange. They called her 'lizard lips' behind her back. Arthur continued," you people are date, parallel, discovery happy, with your well prepared and so calculated evil little shenanigans coinciding with them." As the class listened they were not sure now just what the problem was really.

The bell rang for class to begin with the conversation between Arthur and Miss Ceridwen continuing  briefly. Arthur was excited now, then there was Merlin standing right in front of him and seen only by him and Wain.

"So good to see you again young knight. Ask her the question Arthur." Arthur looked at Merlin for what seemed a minute then called out to Miss Ceridwen Downs,

"You were working with 'vital death' weren't you ? Were you trying to capture our "Doubles, or shadow-soul's which are nourished by the Earth's electrical forces and rayed back into all of us. That's what you are after isn't it evil dragon lady." "You figured if you could just affect our subconscious or reptilian minds you could 'cause a universal sickness of both soul and body'.(1) You and your team were trying to affect our minds and bodies in a very destructive and evil way with you elf ills and subsequent bug mishaps."

The students now cheered the upright and outspoken boy as Miss Ceridwen Downs began her class. Without turning away from Arthur, looking sternly at him, she acted as if she was speaking to the entire class while never taking her eyes off of him as she spoke. The class strangely did not hear clearly what she was saying to Arthur rather they only heard her voice saying to them,

"O. K. kids for our social studies assignment I asked you to watch MTV for one hour last night. Does anyone have anything to contribute to the class this morning from your night's viewing?" As in a trance the class could not hear what Miss Ceridwen Downs was subsequently saying to Arthur.

"Do you think we will give up on our plans? We have been around for thousands of years and know ways and methods of deceit that not even your well intended humans know about Arthur. So caution to you Arthur and your young knights, this war has only begun for this 'vital death energy' and your planet's resources that we need so much for our methods of world manipulation and domination. Wars, epidemics are our old ways of accumulating this 'vital death energy'. Why do you think it took four18 year olds in this Christian centered country to catch on to us. Because much of your population is asleep as to the matters of their own souls or how to use this energy as tools for change. Understand good Arthur that there are many other way's we can destroy your will power and inspired imaginations. Using your electronic mediums we spread our gloom and doom scare tactics, depleting your gold reserves on the cheap by the boat load we can break your treasury, we can turn your Nation into others trading vassal while poisoning you with foods rich in fats, cooked in rancid oils fit for rodents only. "

"Arthur sat very still, blank as a slate not thinking a thought or saying a word. The teacher then turning her attention to the class, went about quizzing them on last nights MTV programming. Seems she was a regular watcher and could not be fooled by the any of the students who had better things to do with their time.

"Any songs, lyrics or ideas you found uplifting?" After what seemed a minute one student raised her hand.

It was Jasmine asking the question. "That programming is very down on the state of affairs on our planet today and seems anti parents and anti everything that this country stands for. So why would you even have us watching it for homework? It's like junk food for the mind really."

Miss Ceridwen Downs was visibly upset with these comments. "Listen here" she was studying her seating chart to see who this out spoken student was.. "Jasmine?" Jasmine smiled nodding her head in agreement, "Jasmine you just need to watch it more, then I think even you will be able to see it's far reaching and insightful significance for the world's youth culture today and our plans for the world today."

"Plans? what plans Miss Downs, you got some MTV agenda you want us to be marching to? Seems it's just a bunch of young people having fun in their own way and not much else, with hardly a wit given to thinking about our futures or even the world's future for that matter."

The students now broke out with opinions, comments flying around the classroom, spinning out of control like the division of raging cells. "MTV is cool," another yelling "MTV rocks" while another said, "MTV is our medium for harmless entertainment." Another student yelled, "it stinks and only those with nothing better to do even bother watching it anymore." Yet another student said, "to each their own I say and who do you think you are Jasmine, the thought police or something?" Laughing, yelling the entire class was arguing out loud now the merits or lack of such with the controversial programming when finally the class bell rang, bringing the classroom donnybrook to a close.

Arthur got up from his seat, left the classroom without even a glance at the wild eyed teacher they called 'lizard lips' and walked to Mr. Baldur's classroom. He could still hear the words of Miss Ceridwen Down's ringing in his head, "much of your population is asleep as to the matters of their own souls. Understand good Arthur that there are many other way's we can destroy your will power and inspired imaginations." He felt a pain deep in the pit of his stomach. Holding his stomach then rubbing it gently, he once again heard the words and refrains as Merlin faded from his view.

What is, never was, what was, will never be again.
This healing feeling flows through the lands.

"Knowest thou what thou are
In the hour of sleep-
a mere body- a mere soul-
Or a secret retreat of the light?" (1)

Mr. Baldur's classroom was like a come down room from the weekend. He greeted his students warmly and started the class work slowly.

"Our reading today from Thomas Paines 'Common Sense' begins with the words, 'Mankind being originally equals'. Let's reflect on that thought for a minute. Do we see a world of equals today on our planet today?"

The class was quiet until Niki raised her hand saying,

"I liked the line 'how impious is the title of sacred majesty applied to a worm, who in the midst of his splendor is crumbling into dust'. Seems that is what we are seeing around us today with 1/2 the worlds children going to bed hungry every night while 60% of the world's wealth is controlled by a hand full of people. I think nation and world hunger is a fixable problem yet it is not being fixed. And another thing, if we are the children of God, what happens to our world when powerful moneyed individuals think that this is 'old school thinking' and in fact by them we are just intelligent animals. Does that not allow these people to do as they please, as their are no consequence to their actions because their is no divine design or conscious intelligent design to this life we all share together?"

"Good points. So mankind today is not being treated as equals, is that what you are saying Niki ?"

"Yes Mr. Baldur, I think it is as simple as that. There are users and the used, in the end it seems it's democracy for those who can afford it, the rest of us feel like we are treading water just to stay alive."

Mr. Baldur smiles at his student then looking at the class says; "swift deep waters flow still on the surface," then continuing to read from the text.

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

"Mankind being originally equals' in the order of creation, the equality could only be destroyed by some subsequent circumstance; the distinctions of rich, and poor, may in a great measure be accounted for, and that without having recourse to the harsh, ill-sounding names of oppression and avarice. Oppression is often the consequence, but seldom or never the means of riches; and though avarice will preserve a man from being necessitously poor, it generally makes him too timorous to be wealthy'. The class is now listening to his even toned reading as he continues into the next five paragraphs of the work by the great patriot Thomas Paine entitled 'Common Sense'.

"But there is another and greater distinction for which no truly natural or religious reason can be assigned, and that is, the distinction of men into KINGS and SUBJECTS. Male and female are the distinctions of nature, good and bad the distinctions of heaven; but how a race of men came into the world so exalted above the rest, and distinguished like some new species, is worth enquiring into, and whether they are the means of happiness or of misery to mankind."

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

"In the early ages of the world, according to the scripture chronology, there were no kings; the consequence of which was there were no wars; it is the pride of kings which throw mankind into confusion. Holland without a king hath enjoyed more peace for this last century than any of the monarchial governments in Europe. Antiquity favors the same remark; for the quiet and rural lives of the first patriarchs hath a happy something in them, which vanishes away when we come to the history of Jewish royalty."

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

"Government by kings was first introduced into the world by the Heathens, from whom the children of Israel copied the custom. It was the most prosperous invention the Devil ever set on foot for the promotion of idolatry. The Heathens paid divine honors to their deceased kings, and the christian world hath improved on the plan by doing the same to their living ones. How impious is the title of sacred majesty applied to a worm, who in the midst of his splendor is crumbling into dust."

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

"Near three thousand years passed away from the Mosaic account of the creation, till the Jews under a national delusion requested a king. Till then their form of government (except in extraordinary cases, where the Almighty interposed) was a kind of republic administered by a judge and the elders of the tribes. Kings they had none, and it was held sinful to acknowledge any being under that title but the Lords of Hosts. And when a man seriously reflects on the idolatrous homage which is paid to the persons of Kings, he need not wonder, that the Almighty, ever jealous of his honor, should disapprove of a form of government which so impiously invades the prerogative of heaven."

Thomas Paines 'Common Sense'

As the exalting one man so greatly above the rest cannot be justified on the equal rights of nature, so neither can it be defended on the authority of scripture; for the will of the Almighty, as declared by Gideon and the prophet Samuel, expressly disapproves of government by kings. All anti-monarchial parts of scripture have been very smoothly glossed over in monarchial governments, but they undoubtedly merit the attention of countries which have their governments yet to form. 'Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's' is the scriptural doctrine of courts, yet it is no support of monarchial government, for the Jews at that time were without a king, and in a state of vassalage to the Romans.

end of Thomas Paines 'Common Sense' reading.

For the rest of the class time they discussed the thoughts contained in the five paragraphs. Did the world today need to be run by an elite that saw themselves as Kings and Queens when in fact were we not all children of God in a celestial order by our birthrights alone? The class discussion was what the students needed that morning, it awoke them from their MTV weekend doses, raves and the Dutch serotonin in a bag craze that flooded the airports and docks of their city and state. 'To think and to be' that was a motto in Mr. Ben Baldur's classroom and it allowed them all a chance to figure things out for themselves and then to do something about the way things were on a very challenged planet they found themselves living on.

That afternoon the chorus/orchestra and band met for their 6th period rehearsal. 'This Healing Feeling flows Through the Lands' was taking shape now. As the class took their seats Mr. Tones Jones introduced his wife Vickey Vitals to the class. He explained to them that she would be assisting the percussion section this afternoon. Some of the class knew her from the drum circle, most had never met or seen her before. She smiled at the class standing with her husband before the class with a set of standing bongos.

"Lets tune up now with a C." The musicians started tuning their instruments s directed as the chorus started doing their voice exercises. After a minute or two Mr. Jones said,

"all right class lets take it from the top. Arthur I want you to play your snare drum to a 4-4 tempo for one bar, then chorus I want you to come in with the lyrics, quickly in time to the music with your lyrics. Ready lets go.."

For the next four bars joined by the strings, again softly, now we move into the chorus singing the lyrics for the first act in 4-4 beat in C with the entire orchestra playing now. Lets see what it sounds like now. Vickey looked at the percussion section and said to them," just follow along to my beat o.k.?" They softly tapped out their willingness to follow her lead as the snare drum began to beat out a quick tempo,  chorus joined in,

Miss Ceridwen Downs disappeared that afternoon about 6 that evening. Those who saw her leave said a big black Cadillac limousine came to pick her up. A General and a very nervous looking bureaucrat where sitting in the back seat. She started yelling at the two men the moment she got in. As the driver pulled away she was seen through the back window sitting with them in the back seat striking them with all fours, arms and legs flying like a reptile on the run.

Fall 2000

The chorus, orchestra / band's performance of 'This Healing Feeling flows Through the Lands' that fall was a great success. The show won a state wide competition. First prize was a two week paid billing in New York City running off, off Broadway. They filled the house for the entire run and no body cared about where they were playing. Hey, they were having to much fun to care.

Arthur married Blossom that summer in a beautiful ceremony held at her parents house out on the sound. He was accepted into the University of Minnesota's Geometry Dept as an under graduate student. He worked his way into an associate professors program just starting up soon after his enrollment at the university. Blossom continued with her Social Medicine program while Wain went on to play football, as a walk on, at Fordham University in New York City. Ira Johannes and Kuna Wavs enlisted in the Army and where stationed down in West Antarctica to monitor glacial melt, rising sea levels and the accompanying warming ocean trends. Edwards and Taliesin Productions went on to write and produce musicals that played far on into the future in distant lands as the frozen north lands of Russia and Siberia.

The Round Table of the Knights ended up in the hands of Mr. Gallo Lenz, thank goodness. Seems the military was not aware of the find or even Ceridwen's cell indicating a small handful of individuals were operating outside the preview of our own government. Mr. Lenz was able to buy the quarry for a very reasonable price. Then using ground penetrating electronic equipment and the help of the four young men he pin pointed the exact location of the large white stone. Going in through the top and down into the hidden room just 20 yards below the earth's surface he located the fabled stone table. Then hiring a huge ship yard crane he had the round table pulled up to the surface. It was displayed in New York City and Los Angeles with great fan fare before he had it removed clandestinely to Spain. Due to his concern for it's safety as rising sea levels around the globe were threatening coastlines Mr. Lenz had it removed to Valencia, Spain. From there it was taken to an undisclosed site high up in the Pyrenees Mountains for safe keeping. The paintings of the Galls were photographed before the excavation began but unfortunately were destroyed in the removal operation. The only inscription saved was the Isaias chapter 51 verses 1 & 2 script. It was housed in the American Museum of Natural History in New York City for all to view. The 'criptid' in the caves tunnel was removed and Merry Twilight was not talking. As fall's leaves turned many bright hues of red, orange and yellow a song was heard riding on the winds, it was as sounds of many angels singing heartily accompanied by the drumming of many drummers,

The End and The Beginning

The Future of Man
by
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Two partially divergent solutions present themselves. ...According to one (the "collectivist solution "), it would suffice, in order to assure the biological success of our evolution, that Humanity succeed somewhat in arranging itself globally in a sort of closed circuit where each thinking element... connected with all others might arrive at a certain final clarity of vision and a certain warmth of mutual understanding ---yet all of this without any appearance of a center. ... According to the opposing hypothesis (the "personalist solution"), ... it is just such a Center of assemblage, it is precisely such a capstone that must be anticipated and applied. .... If indeed... a real form of love does not surge up in the heart of evolution ---love stronger than all private egotism and all special passion, ---how can one ever expect the Noosphere to stabilize? ...In all truth, in order to hold together the human multitude without crushing it, ....a powerful and simultaneously irreversible field of attraction appears indispensable... Thus, have been reasoning and feeling (at least implicitly) for two thousand years, all Christians. And thus, under the urgency of events, will find themselves obliged to think, an ever increasing number of biologists and psychologists. So much so, that the greatest event today in the course of the history of the Earth would be indeed perhaps just that gradual discovery ... not only of Some Thing, but of Some One at the summit engendered by the convergence upon itself of the Universe in evolution." page 363

Dante's Paradise

"There is in heaven a light, whose goodly shine
Makes the Creator visible to all
Created, that in seeing him alone
Have peace; and in a circle spreads so far,
That the circumference were too loose a zone
To girdle in the sun. All is one beam,
Reflected from the summit of the first,
That moves, which being hence and by vigor takes.
And as some cliff, that from the bottom eyes
His image mirrored in the crystal flood,
As if to admire his brave appareling
Of verdure and of flowers: so, round about,
Eying the light, on more than million thrones,
Stood, eminent, whatever from our earth
Has to the skies returned. How wide the leaves,
Extended to their utmost, of this rose,
Whose lowest step, embosoms such a space
Of ample radiance! Yet, nor amplitude
Nor height impeded, but my view with ease
Took in the full dimensions of that joy.
Near or remote, what there avails, where God
Immediate rules, and Nature, awed, suspends
Her sway? Into the yellow of the rose
Perennial, which, in bright expansiveness,
Lays forth its gradual blooming, redolent
Of praises to 'the never-wintering sun'....(5)

pg. 31, 32, "the inbiber of learning", "The advent of Gall Power who destroyed the birds, hints at the coming of vital changes in civilization which ushered in intellectual knowledge as distinct from the old instinctive knowledge, and so obliterated the old clairvoyance."

pg. 42, "A lovely legend is told by Fiona Macleod in Beyond the Blue Septentrions. The boy Arthur, dreaming on the hills at twilight, watching the stars, "climb out of shadowy abysses" saw in vision..."ascend the invisible stairways of the sky" until he stood...There he saw the "Light of the North" as a company of...proclaimed: "Comrades in God, the time has come when that which is great shall become small." This is a beautiful illustration of the truth that every earthly even is first "written in the stars". There it is great; upon the earth it is small. The Round Table is the "circular abyss" of the Earth, and the original foundation of the traditional Round Table...

pgs. 62, 63,  "So the general designation of the ancient Bards, "Merddin" (as Mercury with his twin Venus) suggests the alternations of morning and evening, the moment of waking and the moment of falling asleep, and these are the times, above all, when souls, living on the earth, are crossing and re-crossing the threshold of the spiritual world in sleeping and waking up and are best able to receive impressions of the "shining land".

from a Bardic poem of the sixth century

"Knowest thou what thou are
In the hour of sleep-
a mere body- a mere soul-
Or a secret retreat of the light?"

pg. 177, "All consciousness arises in man through the opposition of integrative and disintegrative processes in the interplay between nervous energy and metabolism. St Paul knew this: “In life we are in the midst of death.” This is a physical as well as a moral truth. The Bards were acquainted more with the element of death; the Druids more with the element of life. The Bards, in “dying” to the physical world by overcoming the lower ego-hood, reached the wisdom bestowed - as has been described - by the “ Virgin of Light’ which they brought down into their earthly consciousness as music and as knowledge of the laws of speech: they attained to the recognition of a pure Ego-hood in man that is able to grant full value to all other Egos - understanding the Word as it passes to all other Egos - understanding the Word as it passes from one to another. They knew the Courage out of which Love is born ; so they knew the influences bestowed by Mars, the representative of Power and aggression, and their transformation into the gentleness of Love, the Mercury-Messenger between Heaven and Earth. The Druids, in discovering Life, learnt how no life is possible that is not the product of dying, and no death is fruitful that is not sanctified by sacrifice: in these lie the secrets of man’s toil upon the Earth, of seed-times and harvests, and of all the institutions of civil rights - of justice and mercy. So they knew the influences of the Spiritual Sun."

pg. 186, "..It is recorded how different heroes had to undergo imprisonment; and arthur is said to have been imprisoned three times. Once in the cell of Oeth and Anoeth, whose names mean "wrath and the remission of wrath": once in company with Wen Bendragon, the "lady of the source of generation"; and once under the "flat stone of Echemeint" which covered the "cell of Ceridwen". These are all experiences connected with dying. The first suggests the recognition of sin and purification - a dying of the lower self;  the second suggests the becoming acquainted with the divine origin of the soul which is born of the spiritual to "die" or forget its origin when born in the material world; and the third suggests the sacrifice of all earthly desire in returning to the womb of the World- Soul."

pg. 206, "The strong forces of the "Double" permeated the wisdom of the far West through and through, imparting to men an elemental will, an unselfconscious power, allied to the magnetism of the Earth and the destructive processes of reflex nervous activity. Through this inner alliance, forces could be introduced into civilization which, without any clairvoyance and in opposition to the free development of self-conscious Ego-hood- would in time cause a universal sickness of both soul and body.

pg. 207, "There is an inexorable inwardness in the purpose of the human spirit. It begins its pilgrimage in the immemorial past under the visible guidance of higher powers; it grows blind; gropes in the darkness; finds at last its own inner light, and after bitter struggles will gain the power to radiate it over the whole Earth."

pg. 281 "Anyone can study the history of Europe during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries and see how the Graeco-Roman influence is still present; or can observe the way in which the Christian impulse, in its outer form, becomes- even through the instrument of the sword- the shaper of Europe.

The coalescence of elments and the coalescence of stems, the spherical gemometry of the earth and psychical curvature of the mind harmonising to counterbalance the inidividual and collective forces of dispersion in the world and to impose unification--there at last we find the spring and secret of hominsation.

But why should there be unification in the world and what purpose does it serve?

To see the answer to this ultimate question, we have only to put side by side the two equations which have been gradually formulating themselves from the moment we began trying to situate the phenomenon of man in the world.

  • Rise of consciousness=Union effected
